One of the first cards I customized for TY is this MiG-23BN card to substitute for the SU-25 Frogfoot card because I wanted my Volksarmee force to have its own organic fixed-wing CAS: TMP link

The picture looks a bit "bleh" compared to the F-16 TMP link and SU-17/-22 cards TMP link I did, so I decided to replace it and make it a bit more dynamic. I found a series of nice artwork by Ukrainian graphic artist Alexander Iartsev including this MiG-27 on the attack launching a Kh-25 air-to-ground missile:

MiG-23BN artwork and photos are rare, specific ones for the East German Air Force even more so, but MiG-27 images are pretty common. Since both ground attack variants of the MiG-23 are similar enough in appearance, it works just fine. I'm using 1/144 MiG-27's to represent the MiG-23BN's anyway. Not a bad makeover huh? All I had to do was to cut the plane out of its aerial background and replace the red star on its tail with the LSK insignia:

Get some Foxbats or Flogger D's(MiG 25 and 27) and we may have something.

Keep posting. Would love to see a BTR 80! I like playing late Cold War – like 1989 with Bradleys, M1A1s, BTR 80s. etc.

This card is my Volksarmee stand-in for the SU-25 Frogfoot aviation company. In TY aircraft is used solely for air support of ground forces, so the Foxbat (as a purely air-to-air interceptor) is unsuitable for this game but a Flogger D stand-in for the SU-25 is certainly doable.

Would love to see a BTR 80!

I was actually thinking about doing one because I have 14 of the Khurasan models (I actually ordered their BTR-60's before the BF plastics came out, but they sent me the BTR-80's by mistake – I decided to keep them instead of returning them). Stat-wise it would be no different from the BTR-60 though, right?

leobarron200001 Mar 2018 12:57 p.m. PST

That's a good question on the BTR 80. It did not received the 30mm gun until 1994 so that would not be an option unless you want to make a separate card for it. The only stat that might be slightly different is the armor. BTR 80 had three more tons and supposedly its frontal armor could stop a 12.7mm round. However, it could only carry 7 troops – compared to the BTR 60's ability to carry 14.

Quick correction – the older BTR60s carried 12-14 but the BTR60PBs had smaller troop capacity – around 8.

I might do cards for a BTR-80 battalion anyway even if they're the same as the BTR-60. I'm also tempted to do cards for an M2A2 Bradley (entered service in 1988) mech combat team.

Would the embarked infantry composition be the same except the Dragon missiles would have been replaced by the newer TOW's?

leobarron200002 Mar 2018 12:21 p.m. PST

The Dragon was replaced by the Javelin in 2002/2003. The TOW is still in use.

M2A2 Mech Combat Team will be next. Those Zvezda models are suhweeet!

Thanks to you, I have 4 Bradley's on the way.
