One 3D Model, Many Bases?

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian wonders why create different 3D models, if you can create one that can be customized?

This was eaten by The Bug yesterday so I thought it would be a good idea to try to post it again:

I've been playing board wargames since the mid -70's along with SL (playtester) and ASL since their release.

For years I've tried all different methods for clipping counters and I finally gave in and purchased this:

It's very expensive and I would not recommend it to the casual gamer who plays infrequently.

However, if you are like me and enjoy playing on a regular basis and have a large collection than this tool is worth the investment.

Available in different radius curves I choose 2.5 after reading online reviews and watching videos.

Large, well made, easy to hold and dead simple to use – it should be for the price!

There are other, less expensive trimmers available but their small size and lack of heft make consistent, accurate cuts difficult and they can be tiring to use over an extended period.

Short review / use video:

Again, not necessary for the casual gamer but highly recommended for those who play on a regular basis.

Maybe that's what I need.

These guys might find some use for that tool as well:

Honestly, I resisted for a long time based on the price but after using it the first time it was one of those – why didn't I purchase this earlier! -moments.

I bought the C4 corner cutter first and wish I had not, it quickly became mis-aligned and mangled a couple of counters before I tossed it. The Oregan Laminations cutter above is excellent, I've clipped thousands of counters with it and it is just as good now as it was on the first clip. I've also got the 2.5mm and use it for every counter size from half inch on up.

I had games back in the early days where the die cut was so bad counters had to be trimmed and I use a rounded toe nail clipper.

Handy tool.
Now if I only had the free time to trim counters.
Maybe I can outsource it…
Thanks for posting this.

Amazing, I've been playing wargames with miniatures for 50 years, and board games 10 years before that. I never even knew there was a problem that needed to be solved with counter clippers.

Bobgnar: what's wrong – why the sarcasm – ?

If it (ragged counters) is not an issue for you then why bother to comment – ?

It's like soap and deodorant, some people just don't seem to care but some of us do.
