I know, I know, I need a new period like I need a new hole in my head.

But, for the sake of anyone gaming some of the "jungle" action in the movie in 15mm, what Vietnam War era figures would you guys recommend for the stranded members of the expedition, including the scientists and other civilians?

Thanks

Dan

Peter Pig would be a good start.

Thanks! I understand he has re-released the range? Or re-done it, right?

PS. I guess it wouldn't hurt to include a few natives in the mix, even though they didn't really do much in the film, except do a lot of staring.

There have been some figures in the NVA remade recently, yes.

There is a single set of spear wielding native types in his "Pirate" range that might do.

I guess I didn't really know there were so many different manufacturers doing Vietnam:

I was actually thinking of doing this. More I was thinking of doing up my helicopters as their squadron.

I am using Battlefront's Vietnam stuff. I didn't like PP's heads.

Not sure how I will do up the civilians, probably Rebel Minis Zombie Survivors or something.

Now how do I find in scale gorilla skeletons?

I was going to suggest Rebel for some civilians.

Some 15mm Zulus or Aztecs should work for the natives.

I see Old Glory Charging Zulus might work.

Haywire: "Now how do I find in scale gorilla skeletons?"

Last Fall I got hold of a 2" plastic skull, a Halloween ornament, that I was going to modify a bit. A 2" skull would be about 16' tall to a based 15-18mm human, I think.

For starters, I'll need to get rid of the top of the human skull, and reduce the chin. The back of the jaw and cranium will be bulked up, as well as the brow ridges. I'm hoping it looks something like this when completed:

IF I'm successful, I'll see if I can make a latex mold and make you a copy.

Dan
PS. According to the chart below, the 1933 Kong was supposed to be a gorilla 18" tall. The 2005 One was supposed to be 25". Then, because he suddenly has to face Godzilla in future sequels, the director of the 2017 film wanted him to be a ridiculously tall 100" beast.

Rebel Minis for mercenaries.

I presume you have a Schelich or Papo gorilla?
Do you know what the choppers were in the film? I have a few 1/96 ones which might work. Think I might also have a door gunner too. From Peter Pig IIRC.

a dozen UH-1s with varying armament, a Chinook, and a Jolly Green Giant (although it was really a sea stallion).

I have the Schleich one from the Safari series.

Dan you can get some of Peter Pig's troops and a set of heads from his "odds and heads" section with Boonie hats and do a few head swaps do get a better mix of troops.

Plus he has bare heads and ones with bandanas for a bigger mix.

As you guys have said, Peter Pig's Vietnam War era figures with their section of heads would work.
There's also Battlefront/Flames of war Vietnam War era figures.
Old Glory miniatures has some as well, also some special forces.
Flashpoint miniatures has a nam section with useful miniatures.
Khurasan Miniatures has just started a Vietnam War era figures section.

Now imagine having this in your "backyard". :)

How would you depict the natives? In grey volcanic Ash mud coating or bare skinned?

Cacique Caribe26 Feb 2018 2:46 a.m. PST

For the natives I almost prefer the creepy look in the 2005 Jackson Kong film. :)

But the "Fijian" or PNG look of the original film (1933) works for me too, with white body paint:

PS. I like the height of Kong there as well (2005 or 1933), otherwise the iconic wall makes no sense:
