Hi, A friend in the states and (maybe me too) are looking at 15mm vietnam, to field company sized games. But with figures individually based.. but we are both a little unsure of the options, other than the main, Peter Pig, WI and Flashpoint and more over, we don't know how each of these ranges compare and importantly, how comprehensive they are for support weapons etc.. seem lots of infantry, but when it comes to support like HMGs, mortors etc its less clear on which ranges have good coverage. So does anyone know of any good comprehensive reviews of the current ranges, pref with comparrison photos etc? Cheers |

All have good support options, with PP having packs of 8 models and the other two having platoon strength packs. The Peter Pig are a bit smaller than the other two, but Flashpoint and WI/Battlefront will match perfectly since they were done by the same sculptor. I like all three a lot, but slightly prefer the latter two since they have such a huge selection of models and poses. Here's a shot of the three of them
The unpainted one on the left is WI, the half painted one in the middle is Flashpoint, and the unpainted figure on the right is Peter Pig. All are clean casts with lots of detail. The WI may seem a bit taller than the FP but that would be because I have sanded the thick base down on the FP one, and the WI model is right out of the pack. Hope that helps! Jerry |

The WI/Battlefront are a very limited range so far. No VC or ARVN last time I looked, only NVA. Peter Pig are nice but noticably smaller. Command Decision have a good range. Thinner than Flashpoint/BF but a good match. QRF have very limited infantry but loads and loads of great vehicles. I sell Flashpoint here in the US (need a massive re-stock as they just went through an ownership change). They plan to add lots of cool new packs like civilians on bicycles, ARVN, more vehicles etc. I am writing a new set of rules at about your scale. Players usually run a platoon but once you get used to the system a player could run 2+ platoons. Mark "Extra Crispy" Severin ScaleCreep.com FlagshipGames.com DeepFriedHappyMice.com |

Have put an email to Flashpoint to find out about UK suppliers or shipping. Will post my findings for those who might also wish to know. Had another look at their range and appears I managed in my searching to find a limited selection of their products. By going to the home page, I can see there is a lot more. So looking quite good so far. |

Well I have some 15mm WI/Flames of War Vietnam figures now, thanks to a friend, bring them along to WMMS on sunday. The questions is, who does the best in terms of detail and price for 15mm? |

Goose: Okay, I'm the US dealer for Flashpoint but here is my opinion on 15mm
.keeping in mind I have almost all of them in my collection Flashpoint: Very nice sculpts, lots of variety of poses, pretty complete range and still expanding. Limited vehicles. Vehicles are the nicest I've seen but very expensive. Command Decision: Good range, solid figures, more limited poses. Lots of vehicles, weapons etc. Good prices. Cheapest figs around if you get the Army card. QRF: Lots of vehicles especially soft skins. Very limited infantry and the sculpts are only so-so, but see QRF post above. Vehicles are a good value. Includes helos like the Loach as well as slicks. Peter Pig: A nice range. Much smaller than the others and with a distinct sculpting style. Moderate price. Battlefront: I bought a box of NVA. I was unimpressed. The helmets were strangely shaped, and they were not very well molded – I think the molds are a bit worn out? I also did not love the poses. Too many guys hunched over in strange ways, holding their weapons such that they could not fire them. Prices vary. 40 for a 70+ figure platoon but also $45 USD for a 30 figure command pack
. Considering you don't need thousands I go with Flashpoint for most of my infantry and QRF for vehicles

Thanks Crispy.. it is nice to hear other folks opinions and reasons. I went with the battlefront ones/Wargames Illustrated, in the end as a friend had a set. They are ok. But their casting is not the best, that is for sure. Flahpoints look good.. will look at them for y expansions. :) |

Finally made a start on my Battlefront NVA today, having bought loads when Tropic Lightning was released in 2011 only to leave them to gather dust until Tour of Duty emerged. Nothing like a re-launch with some new tanks and helicopters to get people interested again, is there? Extra Crispy's comments on the NVA are spot on: unrealstic poses, mis-shaped hats, indistinct faces, mold lines and a lot more flash than the US infantry, which I rather like. I groaned as I cleaned up the first batch, which included passing a file over the ridiculously over-sized badge on the headgear in an attempt to reduce it to more realistic proportions. I have an awful lot of BF stuff in my WW2 North Africa collection and am very pleased with the CW and Afrika Korps infantry. I realise a different sculptor worked on the Vietnam range but frankly the NVA figures are below BF's usual standards and do not look like they even come from the same manufacturer. BF is seemingly very sensitive to criticisms of its product range but rather than ignoring or suppressing negative comments it would surely be better to face up to the shortcomings and re-design the NVA range. The US infantry deserve a better opponent than this lot! |
