So the Governor General of Sector 6 and I are embarking on a wild and zany campaign, which requires us to build giant space aircraft carriers. I will be sharing my progress here. Check out the blogs for moawr info tho if you would like.

I got the inspiration from this ship, which appeared in an old episode of Thundarr the Barbarian

Getting everything aligned for the build

After figuring out where everything would go I began getting the deck shape cut down.

Stay tuned for moawr

Wait, let me check.

Yepper, mind is well and truly blown.

Narratio17 Dec 2017 8:11 p.m. PST

huh. All these years of opening up stuff, removing the packing forms and I never once noticed that, with some careful cutting and flipping them upside down, those paper maché forms make great mud forts/buildings.

Imagination activated, I can feel another project coming on. Now to start searching for stuff I can give away but keep the packing forms…

Wow! This is a really dangerous idea guys. There's no telling what one of you will come up with next now that he has planted the seed.

Today's progress covers sinking the command tower into the hangar deck and starting to glue the raft supports to the main ship.

Just curious …

Are you going to make the tubes look like giant logs, or are you going to make them look like metal pontoons?

Dan,

I was going to try and make them look like giant logs to start off, but I tried wrapping with string and making it look wood grain, and it just wasnt working out. So I have a different plan which I will probably be able to share in the next post.

Getting some more interior done, and got the deck buildings how I want them:

This is insane… -ly awesome!!!

I am about as unplugged from your genre of gaming as possible for a fellow miniature gamer, and yet… am wearing a big smile seeing this and reading the various blog posts updating your progress, which I will continue to do.

Thanks for posting!

Uhm, speechless.. unheard of for me.

Oh K, just realized something I had to ask, 'Is this a 'Lets see if we can do it.' project, or do you plan to actually us this / these in actual games.
If so I can only guess they must be 28mm, if not 54?

airbornegrove2623 Jan 2018 2:18 p.m. PST

Thanks Part Time Gamer. We have always planned on gaming with them from the start, but it did have a bit of 'Let's see if we can do this" and I'm pleased so far me and the good Major are moving right along.

Yes the games will be in 28mm, Major is working on some rules for the ships, and soon to be painted aircraft. From there it's all up to what we can imagine on the table top. ;)

Glad you guys are enjoying it. We are getting close to completion, but there are still a few more steps to go. Stand by for more in the coming weeks. ;)

airbornegrove2621 Feb 2018 6:37 a.m. PST

Got my Wind Raiders painted up for the Cactus Air-force, New Texas only air wing. Things are really starting to come together. Now I just need to focus on the ship's interior and we should be getting very close to being finished.

Script post script:

By the way, didn't notice 'til now the blog's 2017/12/17 post had 'So in roughly 6 months time there will be fighting among the stars….'

I'd say you may be ahead of schedule!

Damn, wish my designs for ships-on-sticks could handle that weight!

Doug

airbornegrove2624 Mar 2018 9:51 a.m. PST

Yus show the toy store guy what can be done!

I am a bit, however I'm really stuck atm on what large battery/weapon systems to go with. I want to keep them as close to the aesthics as possible.

So with me hum-hawing it over I will have it complete closer to June I imagine.

Skinflint Games26 Mar 2018 7:39 a.m. PST

Wow. Just wow. That. Is. STUNNING.

Being the kind of fellow I am, it's more about what won't be on his shelves. ;->=

I'm sure it'll be a temporary snag, you're feeling, and if it turns to longer, well, those of us in glass houses will throw NO stones!
