Growing up in the 1970's, the TTA books with art by Angus MkGee and Chris Foss were big influences on me. Now that Wave I and II are out, I've started work on recreating some of my favorite designs from the TTA series, as well as some more unique designs based off of of early terran exploration in the books. First a versions of the Proximan Shark
And the Terran Hornet to battle against it
I'm also current'y sculpting the Alphan Sting Ray and Manta, and Proxima piranha, as well as theTerran Cutlass and Barracuda. littlemetalspaceships.com |

I'd buy a Shark just because. |

This is a great idea. I loved and still love those books. I would love to game the Proximan Warj, even if it has something of the feel of WW2 in it conception. |

Hi Deldietch, Fantastic renderings of some classic ships. Love TTA and Foss type stuff. Most of those ships from the books look really cool. You've done a great job. |

There have been several discussions recently about Foss-esque paint jobs on starship miniatures. Now, you can paint the original designs. Genius! Doug |

So, which direction is the front of the Shark? |

Really impressed with the TTA ships in particular…..I'd like to see some panel lines on the Shark ……maybe set up to fit some decals? Gives me chance to replicate those great colourful images…… |

updated image of the Manta:
All the ships will get decal sets made for them…so I've held up on the panel lines till I figure out what is a decal and what will be on the ship hull. Both the Hornet and the Shark will get detailed up though before they go to casting. I may keep them in shapeways for awhile though, at least till I can start generating sales on the other ships to fund the production. Front of the shark is on the right. The two long protrusions I think are the main propulsion engines for space flight. I'm working on the Cutlass right now..which is challenging, as the painting and the overhead diagrams do not match at all, or even have the same hull shape! |

Great stuff. The old TTA books still have pride of place on my book shelf. I'd love to see both Gerling's command vessel and the Terran super-fueller 'stellar cow' from the TTA Great Space Battles p.19 & 37 in miniatures some day. These books stole my imagination when I was a kid. Still love these books. Classics! |

Please use this thread to post pics of requests. I no longer have those books…and I need to repurchase some from Amazon to refresh my memory. Doing the Stellar cow would mean starting a new line of "fleet"scale minis! Though if I can do the initial sets I have in 1 inch, I may be abe to pull off affordable capital ships. Also, I've started on the decal sets for the Hornet. Each ship will have a set for it, and there will be some generic sets as well that fit the style of the paintings.

All my TTA models will be up on shapeways. Both the Hornet and the shark are available now. I suspect they would print them in Europe and ship from there, so it should be very convenient! link For the decals and my other ships, yes, I ship to the UK. No issues there. littlemetalspaceships.com |

I have 6 ships modeled or in progress. I'm not sure what I'll do with all of them though…kits are kinda spendy to make, plus I'd like to get official sign off to label them appropriately. Maybe a painting contest on my own ships. Winner gets a print of their choice! |

The impact of the Spacecraft 2000-2100AD on me cannot be understated. It is my favourite book of all time (though it took me years to realise it, since it's not a novel) and the finest example of how you can tell stories without characters (well, without sapient/sentient characters, anyway). My Dad's copy (for his book is about a year older than me, but became my copy in all but essence many years ago) sits in pride of place with my D&D rulebooks – with the aborted attempt to re-release it with an RPG some years ago – only a glance from the PC away. That book is why I still have a folder full of starship pictures with blurb from when I was of single-digit age. It is literally why the Aotrs Shipyards exist (and why that big release post I just did – heck, all of my scifi release posts – are accompanied with a great whack of fluff fo every vehicle). (It even influenced my DMing style – every bit of background world building I write, I write in the same sort of tone, that of a latter-day scholar from some nebulous future, writing about the history of the world.) My own SSA fleet (my personal favourite) is (as even the name, Saturn Syndicate Ascendancy, suggests) directly and very heavily inspired by TTA and the similar books by Stewart Cowley. So it is very grand to see some in model form at long-last (and a good scale!) I'd be very, very tempted if they were available in WSF. (FD materials, in my experience, are just too fragile – the only starship I've EVER had to throw away (bearing in mind I have like 1300!) was a model I had in FD because it broke and just wouldn't glue back together. (Plus, I don't have displays, since any available space means that I can have more room for more boxes of starships!)) |
