PS. The East Germans certainly liked that high conical style, which to me also looks a little bit like a teardrop when seen from above (meaning one end a little pointier than the other):

There are a number of photos of American troops in the South Pacific in 1941-42 wearing sun helmets. They are not similar to these but more like the British WW1 style.
