(SORRY … Let's try this thread again. Looks like my first attempt didn't survive the "start new topic" transporter and, whatever did make it through, looked like the non-viable love child of Tango01 and myself – yikes!) IMAGINE … a future/post apocalyptic "People's Republic" somewhere on the North American continent … Has anyone ever used 15mm infantry figures of the East German "Nationale Volksarmee" (NVA) for that purpose? If so, got pics? And who makes Late Cold War Era (1980s) East German infantry (or guard) figures in 15mm, by the way? Thanks, Dan

Always liked those East German helmets….hadn't given the idea much thought up till now but if I decide to add to the lead mountain then I reckon these Armies Army chaps will fit the bill link
Edit You're an evil man Dan…I've just gone and ordered a platoon's worth! |

TonicNH, Lol. Yeah, I totally twisted your arm, didn't I? I'm lstarting to like those Armies Army figures a lot, so I might end up doing the same*. Mighty fine suggestion. Dan * Which would make you the bad influence. :) |

Ok, ok ….I've got to paint my Bush Wars minis, got helicopters to build and paint … then there's the 10mm Falklands project languishing, then the 1:600 jets …sure, must be time to buy some 15mm VLA – I like these a lot! |

Alan, Are you going to use those Armies Army figures as East Germans or as something else? Dan |

A future P/A N american Peoples Republic would probably look just like Americans. Unless they were invaded by East Germans from the 1950's. If so I'm good with it. |

Captain Like my wife says, fashions often come back, without any real rhyme or reason. So, who knows? Perhaps during a future "Balkanization" period in America some of the breakout "republics" choose not to use today's US military helmet styles. Some designer might simply get nostalgic for the Cold War days, or perhaps just wants to go with a helmet that is completely different from anything that the other US "republics" they are competing with are using for their troops. Or maybe the founding warlord of that nation raids a few military surplus stores in his area and DDR National People's Army (NVA) helmets is all he finds in sufficient numbers for his closest guards to wear, and from there it catches on somehow. It's the PA, where people gotta made do, so anything can happen, right? :) Dan

Some great paint jobs on those figs ! But yes, I'd think generally no matter what happened, the US troops would most likely still wear the Kevlar helmets like today… Until something much better came along. Helmets on a tactical level at times is how they are ID'd by other soldiers. |

Cut the magazines off those AKs, put battery packs on them and a power cable going to the gun. Paint gun silver and add visor to helmet and you have good ol' 70s/80s future infantry. -Eli |

Just thought of something … Maybe I'm wrong but, other than the occasional border guards at the Berlin Wall, I don't think there are very many mainstream English-language movies that actually show DDR forces. Or are there? Dan |
