… Far More Different Than The Battle For Mosul.

"Mosul's liberation from Islamic State came at great cost both to civilians and to members of the Iraqi Security Forces who fought an urban war on a scale which hasn't been seen since World War Two.

The ten months of continuous battle for Mosul lasted longer than the Battle of Stalingrad, and the ISF suffered close to 1,000 killed and more than 6,000 wounded.

The cost of civilian lives is also believed to be very high, though the exact numbers are still to be determined…"

My husband is a combat vet(Afghanistan with the 173rd AB).

He says these animals can't be beat. Maybe with a ww2 stle bombing attack.

Doubt any country would do it…

Not ever going to happen again, short of a full scale total war to the death. We are far, far away from that mindset currently, thank goodness!

Now, if Mithy were in charge, he'd have carpet bombed Iraq years ago. (Maybe a slight exaggeration.)

To beat ISIS and that ilk, requires cooperation from the locals. They have to hate the aberrant elements in their culture enough to root them out with physical force. They have to be willing to try them and punish the offenders severely. How much of that is going on, really?

If they don't hate them by now, after everything that ISIS has done to so many Muslims, they never will. Instead they are allowing ISIS to spread among them in many other areas of the world, even though it means the death of even more Muslims.

And since Al-Baghdad has already been reported as having been killed a couple of times already*, it shouldn't come as a surprise that when the city is taken, they will find no sign of him (or his other big lieutenants) there.

However, they will find the town will be full of improvised bombs and appropriated and re-armed chemical weapons.

Mosul the toughest urban battle since WW2? Surely Hue, Grozny, or Fallujah can lay claim to that!
