Hey guys! Okay, new era…doing a little force for my son, who is THOROUGHLY enjoying Rome Total War on the iPad and wants an army! Soooo… can the Warlord Games Imperial Roman Praetorians set be mixed with the Roman Veterans…? Like, are they the same era? I don't know the FIRST thing about Romans, but my son really wants a small collection:)
Also, can the Imperial Roman Legionnaires and Scorpion be used with the Roman Veterans? Aw hell… what is the BASIC roman set that Warlord Games sells?! It is SO hard to figure out an era you don't know squat about!:) Okay, wait, ANOTHER set of questions… what about leaders/personalities from Warlord? Can I do Caesar and Mark Antony for them? Pompey and Crassus? What about the artillery from Warlord? So… to sum up, would this be a good little starter set? 1 Roman Veterans 1 Imperial Roman Legionnaires and Scorpion One of the two personalities above. Yeah, I need help. Thanks in advance! |

The personalities you name were really from the Republican era so you want to be picking boxes from the Caesarian range. link |

Ah, okay, the base roman soldiers are more important. Which personalities could go with the Roman Veterans? I just don't know which guys can go with which guys:) Do these two work together as a basic group of Romans? 1 Roman Veterans 1 Imperial Roman Legionnaires and Scorpion |

Yes those last two, veterans and legionaries are a match. Marcus Aurelius will do for this time period, you could also use the general and his dog, from the movie Gladiator. You can mix in the Praetorians, but they often never left Rome. |

You don't say what your boy intends to do with the figures other than he'd like a small collection. If it's just he loves Total War and wants some 3D format then history be damned! Buy the figures he'd like. |

The veterans and "regular" legionaries mix just fine. The Praetorians have a different helmet and shield (and really annoying two-piece shield decal), so I would hold off on those for a starter set. So, your suggested 1 Veteran, 1 Regular Legion & Scorpion is a great start and will keep him busy with easily recognizable figures from the game. My son also plays Total War, and he wanted "eastern" archers and a little cavalry right away, but I think that they could be a second phase. I agree with kodiak above that you should just get the leader figures that he thinks look the coolest. Their appearance is mostly guesswork anyway, and besides, all Romans looked the same anyways. ;) |
