Ages ago I bought 30 or so London War Room SYW Spanish figures. I painted them as Swiss (why not?) Regiment Karrer for a Louisbourg campaign that never got off the ground. They are basically orphan figures. I painted them with red coats and blue facings. Now I have the itch to do a small series of AWI battles based on the campaign around Pensacola and Baton Rouge. Could I use these figures as painted for any Spanish regiment that took part in that campaign? I'm perfectly willing to repaint them, but would rather use them as is. I also have 18 Irish Piquets from Old Glory Jacobite range. Obviously I'm willing to take liberties! Already painted red, but it can be a waistcoat. Any suggestions for them? Of the figures I have on hand, my Old Glory AWI French look pretty good too. Can anyone recommend a good online uniform guide, or an Osprey? I know there's a Uniformology booklet that I should have picked up years ago, but like a dummy didn't. Is it still available? Finally, flags. Is there a good online source of flags suitable for AWI Spanish? |

Irish in Spanish service also wore red down to the Napoleonic Wars, I think. For myself, if I had an army and unit type appropriate to a campaign, I wouldn't lose any sleep over whether the particular regiment I had painted was one which took part. Castings cost money and take up space, painting time is limited--and there are lots and LOTS of campaigns and battles. If the situation required it, I wouldn't hesitate to use a New England Continental regiment for a battle in the south. |

Red coats? You might use them as Irish too:
