Can anyone recommend a good book or books on the Egyptian campaign? I'm particularly interested in 1801 for Abukir and Alexandria – I saw the Perry twins game at Partizan this weekend was fascinated by it. |

An outstanding volume and it covers Desaix's operations in Upper Egypt. |

There is The History of the British Expedition to Egypt by Lt. Col. Robert Wilson in 1803, only two years after the campaign. Lots of great detail from the British side AND it's free on Google: Vol. 1 link Vol. 2 link |

one of the best about the 1800 / 1801 campaign Mackesy, Piers : British Victory in Egypt then Walsh, Thomas : Journal of the Late Campaign in Egypt, London 1803 (available on the net for download – very nice maps) link also Kléber et Menou in Egypt, Paris 1900 covers the period after the flight of Bonaparte link |

Piers Mackesy is the only modern account of the British part of the campaign. There are plenty on the initial French invasion and occupation. Try Strathern's napoleon in Egypt- the greatest glory. On a tangent, as Brechtel says above, would there have been any military campaign as exotic to be part of than Desaix's voyage into upper Egypt? I just finished Denon's account. |

Napoleon in Egypt is the best. I bought it at a used bookstore years ago and it remains one of the best Napoleonic books I have read. |

The Armies of French Republic by Phipps – Volume 5 has a good overview. In fact get all 5 volumes if you're interested in the period. |

Like to second a couple of remarks made above. I first read "Bonaparte in Egypt", by Herold, in 1966 and have reads in several times since. Enjoyed it every time. |
