So I was recommended these rules here recently and after some reading I decided to introduce the kids to the world of Pulp and in particular – Pulp Alley.

With Dad's help the kids designed their own "Leaders" using "Comic Life"

We tried our hand at making a few primitive native type huts …they are primitive but the kids were happy :)

Some hastily cut up plastic flora made up the jungle

Took a few pre-game pics…here they are

It all looks great. Love the way you've done the character cards, and the figures and scenery look very atmospheric.
Tell us how the first game goes!

(Do you happen to remember where you got that Chinese dragon? He's quite smashing.)

War Panda12 Feb 2017 6:17 p.m. PST

Thanks GF.

I just got the Chinese dragon this weekend at PetSmart; It was just over $15.00 USD. They had a larger one for $30.00 USD

Most of my minis are FF Arkham horror or Mansions of Madness so not very detailed and rushed painted.

I'll definitely post a report. There's going to be a mix of Pulp Alley and RPGing with 4 rival gangs heading to the Temple of the Dragon after it's secret location is revealed by a member of the Cult Of The Dragon Tears. The ex-occultist goes public after been on the receiving end of a botched assignation attempt by the new occult leader. News like this is worth money so it spreads far and fast.

But any would be treasure hunter is going to have to face the full power of the Cult of the Dragon Tears!

Will the rival gangs cooperate before taking on the Cult Of The Dragon Tears or spend they needed resources and strength fighting each other. HINT: They're my kids: they'll fight each other getting into a cold bath….

Looking good. My kids love Pulp Alley. Hope yours do too!

War Panda12 Feb 2017 7:21 p.m. PST

Thanks…they're pretty excited about it.

BTW that was $15.00 USD Canadian so they're probably two for a dollar in the States

Looks like lots of fun. Love your character cards!

I've been playing Pulp Alley since I was 11 years old. And that was 8 years ago! LOL

Woo-Hoo John! Looks fantasic

i am finalising plating a Chose in Cairo/Pulp Alley cross over for the kids as well (Chaos in Cairo for character stats and combat, pulp alley for plot points, challenges and solo deck). Using railway models figures cause I cannot be bothered with painting :-) and my terrain will definitely not be up to your standard. It is also more a scooby-doo feel than 30's pulp. Each child will be a character rather than a league and co-op against the system, hence the Chose in Cairo as characters can be a lot more resilient. I am hopefully going to give it a solo (i.e. just me running 4 characters) trial run this week so maybe see a comic style report in the next few weeks. I expect to see yours sometime too!

Gone Fishing13 Feb 2017 6:08 a.m. PST

Hi, Panda – thank you for the information. Can't seem to find that exact one yet, but I'll keep trying!

Shaun, your hybrid game sounds very interesting – it's been years since I've played it, but I always really enjoyed Chaos in Cairo. Be sure to tell us how it goes.

Pulp Alley13 Feb 2017 7:27 a.m. PST

Very cool! It is great to get the kids involved. We have found that kids catch on to the Pulp Alley rules quite quickly. I hope you let us know how the game goes.

Remember, the only rule that matters is HAVE FUN!

Thanks Mila; Wow 8 years ago; well one of my girls is just short of 11 and she's very enthusiastic so maybe she'll be starting a lifelong tradition with this :)

Thanks Shaun, I love the Scooby Doo idea especially for my younger boy who is a huge fan of the show. Where did you get minis of Scooby? I'll keep a keen eye out for it. And yes a comic book report will definitely follow here too :)

@Gone Fishing I'm in Alberta Canada so maybe that's not a US Store. They had lots I think

Here's a … link

Thanks Dave…well if fun is the object of our activity then we've chosen the right rules :) they're so intuitive and the firefights just explode into a life of their own; no boring waiting till next round to see if the target shoots back here :)

And I have to say its great to support a real family business as well….

Looking forward to your write-up after your 1st adventure grin

Gone Fishing13 Feb 2017 9:33 a.m. PST

Thank you for the link, Panda! Might have to get that. I've always felt a strong pull to do some Scooby Doo gaming. Somebody around here posted pics and an AAR for a Scooby Doo/Pulp Alley game, so you might take a look for it.

Ah, here it is: TMP link

Best of luck!

War Panda13 Feb 2017 12:44 p.m. PST

@Huscarle These are perfect! Thanks :) I actually really like the sculpts too

@Gone Fishing How cool is that! Ghost Busters and the Gang! And using Pulp Alley! Thanks for sharing.

War Panda14 Feb 2017 1:20 p.m. PST

Thank you guys! I'm pleased with the cards and the huts were a real family project so its always rewarding to see them played with :)

Zargon14 Feb 2017 2:34 p.m. PST

Those cards are a brilliant idea, where did you get the program from? I'd love to do my leagues up like that. Happy gaming with the kids War Panda. Great setting and figures too. Planing a Horror Cowboy setting (got the horror deck and hope to have that up and running in a couple of months.

War Panda14 Feb 2017 2:58 p.m. PST

Thanks Zargon :)

Horror Cowboy could be a really interesting. I'll have to get the horror deck too. Once you realize how good the system is you want to try out any genre that interests you. For me Judge Dredd is in the pipe-line

The program is "Comic Life 3" and is very useful for comic book type AAR's as well. The cards I used are from an actual template available (some editing needed)

Shaun Travers has some great examples of Comic Life reports. Once you use it its actually very simple to use.

Zargon14 Feb 2017 3:15 p.m. PST

My thanks WP it looks like a fun program, I'm going to get it asap and get building. Outlaw Josey Wails anyone?

War Panda14 Feb 2017 4:34 p.m. PST

"Outlaw Josey Wails anyone?"

LoL ….How about "Dances with Werewolves"? Or Tombstone? Oh wait…

Shaun Travers16 Feb 2017 12:57 a.m. PST

i concur that Comic Life is very easy to use. War Panda has done a few as well and his terrain and figures are a lot better than mine!

Note when I said Scooby-Doo like, what I meant was more like a small group of people walking around trying to solve a mystery – a lot less shooting and only some brawling. The terrain will be what I can put together with what I have. Hopefully it won't look too much like a WW2 battlefield!

I have the Horror Deck and my daughter would especially enjoy that bit of it. But I think I will play a game or two before introducing horrors. Horrors to add a great dimension to the game which will be good as I do want to reduce the shooting and brawling aspects (not get rid of it, just reduce their focus).

War Panda17 Feb 2017 8:55 p.m. PST

Ah Scooby-Doo "like" Now I get it….no Daphne then ;)

I'm sorry I didn't order the horror deck now
