I suspect the originators were not too worried. the organization was in any event initially named in Arabic and came into existence as a breakaway from the MNLF in 1984. The other, now more common, use of the acronym is first documented in the 1990s. |

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front does have an unintentionally funny acronym. I'm sure Duterte will deal with the M.I.L.F in a ham-fisted manner. One shouldn't pussyfoot around with the M.I.L.F. |
