For my Grand Manoeuvre Ancient rules I`m working out the last of the army lists (for the invasions of Britain and the British rebellions actually with Publius Ostorius Scapula`s army to fight Caratacus).

The lists have been designed to produce varaible sized armies with realistic proportions of heavy to light troops etc and the army sizes have been determined with reference to historical army strengths.

Some commanders and armies in campaigns are "automatic", but in most there is a choice, or you can dice for the probability of a battle involving subordinate commanders and their smaller forces.
