Coffee Table Tuesday Chatter #8 July 2016
A fine morning to enjoy Coffee and some Chatter over a selection of new Miniatures. Mr Briggs, fresh with some fine biscuits and tales from his recent visit to Scotland arrived. Coffee break, of Tea for Peter and Nigel, and an chance to look closely at some of the latest developments at EWM.
Tom Lobley has produced some excellent new miniatures to add to our growing range of Abyssinians. Tom has made 2 mounted Chieftains, or junior officers, mounted on Pony's. Separate heads and weapons and these carry a small shield, embossed Rhino horn and Lions main attached.
Also a couple of Ras Tafari's Imperial guard mounted figures. Again, open hands, separate heads, which allow you to pose these figures in many different ways.
Also, a Somali Dubat dismounted, to go with our Camel mounted Dubats. Used by the Italians, known for their fighting spirit, and sometimes referred to as the "Black Bessegliari".
Tom actually called during the coffee table chatter session, so we all spoke with him on speaker phone!
Peter Showed us some of his new hit marker designs, inspired somewhat by Mike Andress (Zacman on the guild) asking about water hit markers for beach landings or river crossings. Peter has made a great start on these from what we could see.
Here at EWM I have continued to push the boundaries of what is possible to cast, one piece, using our new fantastic plastic compounds and mould making technologies. These jeeps, come cast in a single piece, with windscreen attached! What you see is how it comes. Mr Briggs was suitably impressed. I will add some new remoulded crew figures to these and hope to have them available soon.
The latest tank to be attempted, with track assembly & tools, all moulded in one piece is a late M4 Sherman. The turret is metal currently, not sure if I should keep the turrets in metal, but these do give the gun barrels more toughness. Thoughts around the table varied, what do you think?
When finished, turret metal or plastic, don't know yet, these will come ready built, ready to paint to roll straight on to the table. The detail on this is, just the best I have produced yet (sorry blowing of ones own trumpet there) but the opinion of Mr Briggs and Peter who saw it for the first time today reinforces the justification for my "trumpet solo!!#"
The show at Bovi was excellent 2 weekends ago. We showed Mr Briggs some pictures from the show showing our new stand set up. Being put next to all the EARLY WAR British and German tanks in the museum and under the gun barrel of the King tiger just helped make our day. Thanks to all those involved in putting on such a great show every year, its appreciated.
Back to work now, more goodies to mould and make ready. We are at the Devises war gaming show this weekend, then well deserved holidays all round.
