John S. who used to paint for me…was a brilliant painter indeed. But he is no longer available…

If anyone has ever seen Liam Flood's painted figures…that is the quality that John produced…

With that said…can anyone recommend someone for me…

Let me thank yo all in advance

Best Regards

When I can get into my face book account , I can get you some info on several excellent painters, all of good standing. However I can pass on to you to NOT take service with one Highlander Davis from Scotland as he is involved with a number of his client's for missing figures and large amounts of money paid forward with nothing to show. This entails hundred if not several thousand figures and at least upwards to $3,000 USD of one client's money. Just a friendly warning

Tim

Thank you…I appreciate your offer for names…and for the sound warning

15mm 28mm? What's the project if you don't mind sharing?

Art17 Jun 2016 1:01 p.m. PST

G'Day

I do 25mm / 28mm

I use a 1-60 scale….hence small bodies of troops compared to most who have 24 figure battalions.

I have invested far too much to change scales…and besides my eyes are not as they used to be ;-)

The mans name is Stuart Foley. He owns and runs the Jolly Frog figure company. Here is a link to the painting side of the business. You can also find him on Face Book .

i really don't know just how high your standards are, but for decent wargames figures I can recommend Mili Art from cornwall. He has very reasonable prices, a fast turn over and is reliable. He has painted thousands of figures for me over the last 20 years or so, never had any complaints. He also nows the Napoleonic subjects very well.

If you want to see skill in producing and painting 28mm figures look at these (I think the best I have ever seen on this forum).

I am a total novice still at painting. Liam Flood (AKA Deadhead) is not bad at the modelling in brass and plastic sheet and rod, but has much to learn about the figures.

I only got back into this a few years ago painting LOTR figures. My lads (now 21 years old) back then showed me what you could do with figures made by some folk called Perrys. Orcs, Urakhai, Imperial Guard, Catachans. Games Workshop lads of their age told me about washes, inks (no longer exist), paints that are irreplaceable and nearly exhausted (my Tallarn flesh is down to the dregs and, when the Ogryn Flesh wash runs out…and it will…that is it..I give up).

What is my secret?

• Photography. Huge tripod/Light/closed shutter/long exposure/depth of focus etc ……My digital camera is ten years old but modern processing helps. How I miss my Dental Eye II film camera 35mm. I bought a slide digitiser to convert the images but gave up in the end as digital got better. Gave all the kit to a charity shop. Worthless now. £800.00 GBP for the camera alone in late 80s. Imagine that! Now worth about £40.00 GBP

• Produce a few figures at a time. We are not talking massive (ie anything over 12 figures) units. No way could I do what I see the professionals do. (Work still sees to that even after "retiring" to go part-time)

• Select what you paint. Only the best figures. Wait until you see the Tartars I did today. Only six. Gringos40. They paint themselves. Not yet finished but, looking at them tonight…..wow…..

Not von W standard but even I am impressed, by my own work……!

"my Tallarn flesh is down to the dregs and, when the Ogryn Flesh wash runs out…and it will…that is it..I give up)."

Liam:

Vallejo heavy skin tone = Tallarn flesh.
Vallejo fleshtone wash = Ogryn Flesh wash.

Vallejo 'Game Colour' range replicates the old GW paints.

Next question….

I have some well painted figures (for me)…but the set is not complete. Is there a company or person who will take one of my figures and attempt to paint it exactly like the one painted?

Most painters refuse to do it…because "it is not their style"…
