Finally the conversion project – Perry plastic 28 mm French Napoleonic cuirassiers of 1815 – converted into those of 1794. I tried to show a bit transition, some still with closed collars, others already showing off non regulation big scarfs. It was a big effort to do that unit, but in case I wouldn't have commited myself for conversions, I could not own such a unit. Full credits to the Perrys, in case some figures look akward, this is due to my lack of skill

Beautiful looking unit, nothing awkward about them at all. |

So what lack of skill is that? Amazing!! |

WOW! Just amazing! von Winterfeldt do you have any of the french revolutionary infantry painted you posted a year or two ago? Michael |

Exceptionally good, well worth all of the effort. |

I have been hoping to see these finished since you first showed the conversions in their raw state. I saved the pictures then and will do the same now. What is to like? Well……….. The standard pole with the stripes (how did he do that?) The blued sabre with gold lettering…. The figure 8 on the saddlecloth and portmanteau The painting of the horses The brilliant conversion work (go back to the topic where he first showed them) These were worth waiting for. They are totally unique……I hope you treasure them! How did you round off the portmanteau? For Perry Dragoons and Cuirassiers it is, of course, square for Cuirassiers and Dragoons (indeed even for Carabiniers, but I think you told us that may be right on occasion). That cannot have been easy? Also, put up one more picture of the trumpeter. I know how good he is ( as is his grey dappled horse) and he deserves one more image |

They are really rather wonderful. Makes me worry about painting Napoleonic 28mm, though I am somewhat resigned to my 'war game quality' results. |
deadhead | 15 Jun 2016 2:13 p.m. PST |
Please notice that the horses have shoes on their hooves….well naturally! I think there is nothing wrong with wargames quality results. If you are trying to get 20-30 figures to represent many hundreds, the overall effect is more important than the detail on the turnbacks. If the collective unit is something you are happy with………….fine! But seeing this kind of thing from the experts does offer us little tips that we can choose to try every so often. It is a process of osmosis. We gradually learn and improve….. I recall the earlier pictures showing these as plastics, with greenstuff applied. You do often see great painting here. It is the conversion work that gets me… |

I'll be honest, I'm not a giant fan of your AB's. I appreciate the technical aspects but not for me. These are the finest examples of Perry's that I've ever seen. The color and painting is absolutely brilliant. I think your style translates to 28's better than it does 18's. These remind me of the spectacularly painted flats that show up on here from time to time. Brilliant work. |

These look really, really good. Nothing awkward about the figures and an excellent paint job. I particularly like the horse shading – very realistic. |
von Winterfeldt | 16 Jun 2016 2:58 a.m. PST |
Thanks for the interest and feed back, for comparison AB 18 mm I did years ago, some blown up quite a lot, which is really a bit unfair – there colours appear coarse.
Of course I did not have to invest the same amount of time for shading horses – or other details, still the impression of them work in my view as well as for those in 28 mm |
jtipp68 | 16 Jun 2016 5:35 a.m. PST |
I stand corrected on your AB's. I don't think I've seen your cav, those are spectacular also. Bravo. |

Also on special request of the esteemed collaegue deadhead the trumpeters – I did throw in the drummer of La Marck – notice the difference in hue – now I would do the yellow of the cuirassiers trumpeter like him

Shame I never got the flags finished yet… work has taken over! These look fantastic though. Would you want to cover that standard pole? |
von Winterfeldt | 16 Jun 2016 8:14 a.m. PST |
Yes indeed, would look forward to glue a standart onto it. |
deadhead | 16 Jun 2016 8:19 a.m. PST |
Oh yes. That is how I remember him…if not even better than I recalled. His trumpet is hollowed out. His horse has shoes. The trumpet cords…….I have saved pictures of him already for reference! The 15/18mm figures are superb. My recent experience of making that Berline with some AB figures as crew showed me how good they can be. |

Is that a seam/mould line on the officer's right boot? Kidding. These look mighty fine. Good colour work |
julianmizzi | 16 Jun 2016 9:05 a.m. PST |
Very nicely painted Sir ! |

"Is that a seam/mould line on the officer's right boot?" Yes indeed, spotted after I did the photo – I have to redo it. |
deadhead | 16 Jun 2016 12:03 p.m. PST |
He is teasing you. He loves your work. We all do. I have never seen a better combination of conversions (that is my thing. You need imagination, sculpting skill) and the artistic talent to then paint Photography is terrible for that. I see so many errors in my work. The human eye would never…… ever…. see that mould line. My cross eyed Lord Ponsonby is a classic for that. The Scots Grey officer with black plume in his bearskin…because I forgot to paint it. Months later I looked at a photo and thought, hang on………. |
John Miller | 16 Jun 2016 5:45 p.m. PST |
von Winterfeldt: I can only echo all the compliments you have received above however may I ask, do you actually submit these beauties to the dangers and rigors of a wargaming table? Thanks, John Miller |
von Winterfeldt | 17 Jun 2016 11:09 p.m. PST |
rigours of wargaming table, why not? due to painting a lot with artist water colours I have to alas varnish my figures, first with a layer of gloss and then matt. |
John Miller | 18 Jun 2016 5:15 p.m. PST |
von Winterfeldt: I can only say I wish I could be involved in a game with figures that look like. Thanks for getting back to me, John Miller |
