When I saw the headline I thought "Hmmm, a free set of Ivan's DBA rules. I didn't know he had an edition of DBA."

Actually, the entire cited piece is not in violation of the 10 year rule. The subject of the first sentence is not Nazis and Communists (assuming you believe Socialists and Democrats are outside the 10 year rule), the subject is people right now. People right now believe this. People identified by a political grouping (unless you want to assert he was trying to say that Democrats believe that they are the same thing as Nazis).

In any event, it's pretty pointless as the guy deserved what he got. He told another member to "go ---- yourself" and was engaging in name calling ("wingnut" is a pejorative) as well as the dip into modern politics he was actually DH'd for. Surely everyone here agrees that was out of line?

So it's kind of like Al Capone or O.J. Simpson. He was not locked up for the big offenses (personal attacks) but justice was served none the less! ;-)

Edit: I know you love to claim that there is an ideological bias around here in rules enforcement, but this simply is not an example of it. Please show me a specific example of anyone else on that thread doing anything comparable (ie telling someone to "go ---- themselves" and direct name calling) who went unpunished and you might have a point. Until then, it's my opinion that you are being disingenuous.

what Martin HW said is correct I think. Whoever put "politics" – I suspect it was one of the asst editors, perhaps, simply mislabelled the offence.

I suspect that is what occurred too. There were actually three violations by IvanDBA on that thread: the "go ---- yourself" crack, the name calling, and the modern political rant. It's quite possible that the staffers got reports on all three and just happened to put down "politics" as the violation rather than list all three.
I've seen examples of several violations being listed before, but that is not universal.

So you can identify enough politics in his statements to identify him as the "oppressed left", but not enough to see any political content speaking to a current audience and referencing Nazis, Communists, Socialists, and Democrats?
