Tried to revive an old thread, but it did not come back to the top. Here is the link: TMP link My post is at the bottom. Basically looking for Limbers and Wagon horse teams for Anglo-Zulu period. The ones in the thread look good, but if there are other options I am all ears. I am in the U.S so something local might be even better due to shipping. TIA, Aaron |

Richard Houston made some back in the 80s & early 90s(for ridiculously low prices),but his stuff was split up among several different businesses,at least one,London War Room, also now defunct. The Virtual Armchair General has some, but I don't see the wagons on the site. Maybe whoever has them will speak up. |

Aaron, The first new alternative that comes to mind is the recently released Iron Duke Miniatures limber, for use with horses or bullocks, as pictured here:
It's meant for the Indian Mutiny, but could be pressed into service for other mid to later 19th Century British colonial campaigns. Here's a link to the Iron Duke catalogue page on the Empress Miniatures website, which is the distributor: link Another possibility is the Perry ACW limbers, of which I believe there are several. Neither Perry nor Empress is located here in the US, but notwithstanding shipping costs I've had only good experiences ordering direct from both. |

As I recall, the old Richard Houston Colonials were some of the smallest '25mm' figures I've ever seen. I don't think they'd fit well into a modern 28mm collection. I'm no expert on the Zulu War, so I don't know whether an ACW limber and team with appropriate crew would pass. Back in the day, I appropriated some Airfix ACW limbers for WWII Japanese, and no one objected. But back then, creative wargaming conversions and repurposings were taken to be a sign of resourcefulness and manliness. |

You could also look at Tiger Miniatures 28 mm equipment/cannon line. recreationalconflict.com Carried here in the States by Recreational conflict; there are limbers, wagons, draft horses and pack mules. |

Foundry includes a British limber in their Second Boer War line, French and Prussian limbers in their Franco-Prussian War line, and British and Russian limbers in their Crimean War line. Askari has a German limber and a Russian limber, both from the colonial era: link Askari sells the limbers and the horses separately. Grelber |

i suggest you to to plastic ACW limbers…versatile, light and cheape..then you could purchase 4Grounds wagons in wood and spare nice horses from Colonel Bill… |

I have a couple of extra unpainted British limbers and teams from Foundry's Boer War line that I could sell. I'll take $24 USD per each set of limber, horses and crew. $40. USDfor 2 sets. PM me if interested. I also lots of extra Foundry figures from their Zulu War range and their Boer War range link |

PM sent those are the exact Limber sets I was looking at. Would still like to find horse teams for the wagons I do have. In the U.S. if possible. |

I have six of the Foundry limbers. I mount the horses in pairs on 2x2 bases, so that the front pairs can be used or not, depending on the game. Any unused pairs can be used for wagons, to represent picket lines, horseholders, etc… |

Tommy20, I thought about doing that as well if I bought direct. Do you just use two per wagon then? These are the wagons I am currently working with: [URL=http://s441.photobucket.com/user/adfilter/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02/20160217_215920_zpszww5pv8e.jpg.html]

It depends on what I'm fielding. If it's a big battle, where I'm fielding all of my artillery, that leaves fewer teams for wagons, but if I'm only fielding a pair of guns, all limbers and wagons could have teams of four. With no baggage train, the artillery can have full six horse teams. Oh, and I also regularly lend a four horse team to my buddy to pull his stagecoach for Dead Man's Hand. We just hand-wave the differences in tack/harness. |

Smart man, Tommy20. I'm also mounting my 28mm draft animals in pairs, separately from the vehicles. This allows me to have more vehicles than teams, and to switch the teams from limber to wagon to cart to ambulance to whatever, depending on which vehicles I want to put into a particular scenario. |

Been reading a bit and wonder if oxen are more appropriate for the wagons? |
Rhingyll | 20 Feb 2016 8:54 p.m. PST |
Maybe mules would work for the wagons as well. |

Redoubt Enterprises do limbers for the Zulu wars and I think Sudan as well which should be suitable |

Thanks for the feedback. Event is less than 2 weeks away. Wagons will be stationary, will decide on teams for them later. I did aquire 2 sets of Limbers from foundary. They are on the bench now. The terrain is now built and ready as of last weekend. link |

Hi 'afilter'. You have done a nice job on the terrain. I see you used the map from my Isandlwana scenario. Are you using Battles for Empire to play the game? If so, we have played it several times and it is usually a good fight for both sides. Do note that all the BFE scenarios are free for download at the BFE sales site embedded at Hotzmats. Best of luck at Little Wars. Cheers, Chris |

I just finished building I British column for a Zulu war scenario I will be hosting in a couple of weeks. All my research has the wagons pulled by 8 or 10 oxen teams. The caissons were all pulled by horse. I purchased all my wagons from 4Ground. They also have oxen and appropriate wagon drivers. They also have native drovers to walk besides the oxen. |
afilter | 20 Apr 2016 7:26 a.m. PST |
Did you buy direct from 4Ground? I have not seen these. |
rhacelt | 20 Apr 2016 1:34 p.m. PST |
Yes. I bought two of the Boer trecker teams and two other wagons. The Boer trecker teams come with eight oxen each so I split them up for to a wagon. They also come with drivers and you can order British divers. |
rhacelt | 20 Apr 2016 3:31 p.m. PST |
That should say British drivers. |
