I started a collection encompassing the Zulu War, Sudan and Northwest Frontier. Who makes a 28mm artillery limber suitable for British forces?

Redoubt have a limber in their Zulu Wars range.

Foundry has a beautiful one in their Boer War line.

Foundry one back in production. That's great news.

Thanks. So which matches Warlord, Empress, and Perry?

I use 3 of the Foundry Boer War limbers for one of my British colonial artillery batteries, and 3 of Foundry's Indian Mutiny British limbers with converted crew for the other. In addition to Foundry, I have units of Perry, Empress, Copplestone, Eureka, and Castaway Arts figures in the same collection, and they all look pretty good together.

As Flintloque says above, the Foundry "Galloping RHA" limber set is a fine-looking and very dramatic piece.

Here's a pic of the Foundry converted Mutiny limber set with an Empress mounted officer:

And here's a couple of not-so-great pics of Foundry Boer War galloping RHA limbers escaping across Mundabad Ravine at Maiwand:

Great Blog. I am now a follower.

It'd be great if you added follow by email. It's easier for me to follow when traveling.

I went onto the Foundry site and the RHA limber set is still marked as not available.

That's bad news, Alan, but Foundry's new policy claims that if you email to ask them, they will cast up and deliver a large selection of their "currently out of production" miniatures, including everything sculpted by the Perrys or Mark Copplestone, and that Boer War RHA galloping limber set was sculpted by the Perrys, so even if it's marked unavailable, you should be able to get it.

Hello,

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but it is the exact topic I was about to post.

I am also looking for Limbers as well as horses. I see Foundry still has the Boer war limber and Redoubt lists the Limber, but no pictures.

It appears Redoubt sells limber and horses separate. This might be a good thing as I am also looking for horses for wagons.

Anyone have a picture of the redoubt products as that may be the way to go to get my wagon teams at the same time.

These are the wagons I have:

Finally, I see the foundry set comes with 6 horses. Basically these would be eye candy on the board as most scenarios have the guns deployed. Would you go with a full 6 horse team? What about the Wagons, 2-4?

TIA,

Aaron

Aaron,

Just replied to your new thread, then saw this.

The answer to your last question above is… it's completely up to you!

It's true 6-horse limber teams take up more space than 2 or 4 horse teams, and that the only difference is in the "look" of them on the table. So each of us must choose whether or not the improved look is worth the loss of space. Table size and the particular natire of the terrain layout for specific scenarios can factor into the decision as well. I myself go more for historical accuracy, so 6 horse limber teams and howver many horses for wagons as would likely have been used at the time and place in question, but I certainly have no problem with anyone who cuts down the number of animals to save space and/or money, and if the guns in question are indeed "deployed" and only moving via prolong, then I'd have no problem no limbers being present at all. On the other hand, in the old days I used to play with guns being turned around and lining the crew up one behind the other in front of the trail to show they were "Limbered," which I wouldn't want to do now. But that's just me, and it wouldn't keep me from participating in someone else's game that did it that way.

Mad Guru,

Thanks for the feedback. While not needed, I think they will be nice "eye candy" especially for a large demo game and a Convention.
