If TMP narrowed it's focus to just historical miniatures, would that constitute a net improvement or a net debasement? Not having thought too hard about it, maybe express your answer with the strength of your view of that particular change? A wash would be 50/50. An unmitigated improvement 100/0. An unmitigated disaster 0/100. Or maybe that just overcomplicates it. I'll have to accept 1) better off or 2) worse off. |

Let's not make such a change. The science fiction and fantasy minded folks here offer a lot of good ideas that inspire us more historically minded sorts. Look at some of the nifty ideas for scratch building that come from such folks, for example. This would be a much poorer site without them. |

Except Dear Editor in Chief seems to be more of a scifi gamer than a historical one. That's all he seems to feature of his own work. I hate fragmenting and confining things. I do little fantasy and less scifi. Yet I would miss it, if only to ridicule stupid female fantasy figures. |
enfant perdus | 25 Aug 2015 5:18 p.m. PST |
I don't do fantasy or SF, but I do not discriminate. Also, see: TMP link |
rustymusket | 25 Aug 2015 6:07 p.m. PST |
I have been introduced to things that I would never would have considered had TMP been confined to historical. Some of it good and some of it "oh well". I vote to leave it the way it is. Separate but equal does not work. |

I used to be a Historicals puritan for many years, but I have been been tempted by Zombies, Mad Max, Frostgrave and Tomorrow's War SF recently. So, no. |
SultanSevy | 25 Aug 2015 7:24 p.m. PST |
What's the point of narrowing a hobby that is already niche enough? I think that would be a DUMB IDEA in my humble opinion. |

No. Leave TMP alone. I am an SF/vsf gamer but love the historical stuff. |

Just turn off the boards in which you have no interest. In any case, where does history end and fantasy begin? "Dark Ages" Europe may have an historical basis, but lots of us have Arthurian armies which are at best conjecture and many would say are definitely fantasy. Cross- fertilisation of ideas re painting, terrain construction etc can only be a good thing. |
KTravlos | 26 Aug 2015 3:08 a.m. PST |
I do not think it would be an improvement |
Cosmic Reset | 26 Aug 2015 4:48 a.m. PST |
I would probably go from visiting TMP just about every day to maybe once every two weeks. |
Winston Smith | 26 Aug 2015 5:03 a.m. PST |
The first thing that would happen would be a massive argument about "What is historical?" Followed by massive DHing. |
Sysiphus | 26 Aug 2015 6:25 a.m. PST |
Turn off the boards that you feel lack historical pedigree, and let the rest of us follow our bliss. |
Patrick Sexton | 26 Aug 2015 7:36 a.m. PST |
It would be a foolish idea. |
KSmyth | 26 Aug 2015 7:58 a.m. PST |
It's a bad idea and would definitely dilute the quality of TMP. I say that as someone who is chiefly a historical miniature gamer. |

No. Tabletop miniature gaming has a lot of general themes that carry over into all types of players/themes. Plus, there is a trend toward blurring science fiction/fantasy and historical gaming anyway. These days, purchasers of historical miniatures may be just as likely to use them for all sorts of creative gaming (invasion by martians, steam punk, etc) |
PJ ONeill | 26 Aug 2015 9:32 a.m. PST |
No, I am a Historical Gamer exclusively, but I consider myself a gamer and would like to hear what other gamers have to say. |
RavenscraftCybernetics | 26 Aug 2015 10:26 a.m. PST |
if you aren't recreating a battle in 1:1 scale with live ammo and death on the line, you are not recreating an historical battle. If you replace any of the above with statistical analysis, you are engaging in a fantasy. |
Old Contemptibles | 26 Aug 2015 11:46 a.m. PST |
Sounds good to me. Historical only! Everything else is "Space Monkeys." Let the revolution begin! Great idea! |

This reminds me of the loon who called the Rush Limbaugh show. He was ed that there was a Miss Black America contest. I don't remember why. So he proposed to Rush that we have an all white NBA and an all white NFL. Rush was perplexed. "Who would watch that?" So, to further ghettoize an already marginal hobby the OP would drive fantasy and scifi away from TMP. And to make it even stranger, I have never seen the Dear Editor in Chief ever present any of his projects that were historical. I've seen some of his work here and it was either fantasy or scifi. If there is ever a poll on this I will vote NO and try to convince the OFM to vote the same way. |

)2 Historical Miniatures Page already exists, and it is personal choices that cause one to be aware of other non-historical posts. Otherwise, I agree with Joes Shop. I prefer TMP to be like the large variety of foods I eat. A varied diet is more interesting and healthy. |

I'd be gone, since almost all my wargaming is science fiction. I would play in a historical campaign, but my group isn't much into it. |
Old Contemptibles | 27 Aug 2015 3:49 p.m. PST |
Two different but related hobbies. I have long thought that Historical and fantasy/sci-fi gaming were different hobbies. Most historical players know this. Fantasy/Sci-Fi gamers on the whole don't get it. What they have in common are miniatures. But that is about it. It is like saying that model railroading and miniature gaming are the same hobby because they both use terrain and miniatures. Not saying there is anything wrong with either. I just believe they are different. If you have to ask how they are different, then you won't get it and most likely never will. |
