So, what do you think? Is there going to be a war?
I vote no, but reports are that NK has one crazy boy dictator.

skippy000121 Aug 2015 10:54 a.m. PST

Korea and US stopped their exercise-they are taking it seriously. Hopefully a redeployment at the DMZ will stop this.

Weasel21 Aug 2015 11:06 a.m. PST

There won't be, but it's always good to be on the safe side.

Visceral Impact Studios21 Aug 2015 11:36 a.m. PST

War will come when the NK senior leadership fears an existential threat. Otherwise they'll just bluster and bloviate and chill out in their private life of luxury.

ironicon21 Aug 2015 11:48 a.m. PST

Technically, the war (first one) has never ended.

"Technically, the war (first one) has never ended."

this is true

so instead of KW II
it would be KW 2.0?

From a US perspective, I think it would be more accurate to state that the US-Korean Treaty of 1882 ended the first Korean War.

Nah.

Remember that the whole thing about brinksmanship is not getting called-out.

Fat-boy Un has too much to lose if he ever has to use his military. His biggest fear is that his generals will decide one day that they can rule without him. Going against the ROK woukd only show how weak the military really is and they cant afford that.

No war between the Koreas.

Yes, the war was never over … But after all is said and done … my $$$ is on NO war … For the reasons cwlinsj mentioned and others … And if the war did start, the ROKs would not stop along the DMZ. The ROKs would take it all the way to Pyongyang and then some. Making sure the PRC knows the ROKs are no threat to them. It would be bloody, but would settle a war that has been going since the Norks crossed the border some 65 years ago …

Kim "Little Boy That Cried Wolf" Jong Un ain't gonna do nothing but make idle threats. He likes to think that people are scared of him.

leidang21 Aug 2015 2:37 p.m. PST

Best thing for the people of the North would be to have it and get it over with. Get their nutty gov't overthrown and start pulling in foreign aid to rebuild and modernize.

Rod I Robertson21 Aug 2015 2:48 p.m. PST

North Korea will bide its time and will wait for the day when the West/USA is too preoccupied by other wars to strike. Then the DPRK will strike, likely with Chinese permission. Only Team America will be able to stop them!
Cheers.

The Chinese aren't too fond of a nuclear-armed loose cannon on their border.

The real problem is that the Koreans (both of them) don't want to be dominated by either the Chinese or Japanese, and so want an ally like the US (RoK) or Russia (DPRK). And China doesn't want a US ally on their border.

So you'd need for the RoKs to develop an alliance with the Indians in place of the Americans before China would let the Norks get crushed in a war.

CNN just said, they may be going to the table for "Peace Talks" … which in reality has been going since '53. When I was with a Mech Bn in the ROK for 22 months in '84-'85. This sort of "game" went on frequently. And more than once, we thought the poop was about to hit the fan.

So it's 24 hours after the OP and no war.

Though, I'm still waiting for the second american civil war that people were proclaiming a few months ago, during the Amazon kerfluffel.

I mean, nothing can last forever, right?

Some day, it'll be over and there'll be a solution. Probably not today but let's hope.
