I'm looking for info regarding the flags for the Prussian 1st Silesian Regiment during 1813-15. Any help appreciated. Robert |

Hofschröer, Prussian Staff & Specialist Troops, pp. 38 f. The regiment received new flags only after the end of the 1815 campaign. |

Don't know how accurate this is, but Warflag's Napoleonic Flags site has the 1st Silesian (Regiment nr. 10) with red flags: link Jim |

According to recent sources the flags for both the battalions were as ColCampbell's link. The regiments would normally have the white (colonel's flag or) Leibfahn and the second or other battalions would have the regimentalfahn as mentioned in the link's info and procedure for the later post 1806 style flag issuance. The reason these units had both the same colored flag is… The regiments were issued 4 or 5 flags(#?) at the Fredrickian time, when this style flag was issued, one being the white and the balance the colored. Since only 2 battalions was normally field, the spares ( typically the colored) remained at the depot location. During the French 1806 invasion most of the regimental depots were sacked and thus the spare regimetalfahns were lost. This regiment(# in 1806 I cannot recall exactly -38th or 49th?) was one of the few spared as the one for the 2nd Silesian. The other regiments carrying the old style received their from the regiments of Le Coq's 1807 Prussian Army corp. After the Russian campaign surrender. my 2 cents which hopefully be refined by some of the more knowledgeable scholars on the subject. MG |

The short answer, Robert, is that they used the red flag as indicated by Jim and wrgmr1 until 14 February 1814, when both battalions lost their colours at Etoges. They then didn't carry colours at all until late 1815/early 1816, when they were presented new colours of the 1810 type, with black fields and white corner wedges:
If you're looking for a flags for the unit to carry during the 100 Days (because they look better with flags) then you could leave them with the old red colours, so you can use the regiment for games set before 1815, or decide they got their new colours early and use the black and white flags. Cheers. Dal. |
