Is anyone gaming Jade Helm 15? What rules are best for JH15? What sort of scenarios are being played? Are the SOF groups reliable troops? What about the civilian resistance, how tough is it?

How many layers of tinfoil do you need?

15mm and 28mm Fanatik19 Jul 2015 11:24 a.m. PST

With JH15 and the recent ban of the CSA flag, the fear of "Big Brother" has been rekindled.

But this topic had already been covered here TMP link and here TMP link

Thanks for the informative links 28mm Fanatik

At least 3 layers of tin foil Doug, the voices are much better now.

cosmicbank19 Jul 2015 2:05 p.m. PST

You can put lead figures between two pieces of cloth in a pinch.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, and I intend to keep it that way.

About 1200 US troops are playing using 1:1 scale
An unknown number of Americans think that it isn't a war game but some sinister conspiracy of ever changing complexity and evil.

…the fear of "Big Brother" has been rekindled.

It's pretty much been on the front burner, maybe not quite on full boil, but there nonetheless since 2007.

The Pitchfork and Firebrand crowds now show up often and large enough to block the view, but the pot's there and it's still going strong.

Not that I really buy the big conspiracy, but as the old saying goes----

Just because you are paranoid does not mean that they are not out to get you.

The US founding fathers had a distrust of big government for a reason and the intervening time has not made the civil servants/masters any more pure hearted.

I have also found in my 30 years experience in the Military that there are many who do not understand what the Constitution actually says. So it therefore could be easy to convince some to attack rights that they do not understand are granted by the Constitution that all have sworn to defend.

I guess if I were to game this it would have to be more of a board game to be able to get all the states involved.

Just get a copy of "Paranoia" (1980's RPG) and set it the contemporary USofA.

Since it's a military exercise, to game it, use only troops from one army, don't roll any dice to hit and have no casualties.

Are you asking about gaming a hypothetical American civil war?
In that case, grab pretty much any "ultra-modern" game, swap the Afghan insurgents for American ones and have at it.
I doubt it'd look terribly different.

As for the political hoohah. Does it ever occur to you that being able to freely discuss how the totalitarian regime suppresses all dissent is probably a good indication its not terribly totalitarian?

Exactly what they want you to say, Comrade.

The discerning gamer, using No End in Sight could run this as a Hearts and Minds campaign.

For an easier option, find a local map on Google maps. Divide it up into 3-5 regions and then use the "MIlitary Progression" table to determine the results after every battle.

The insurgents are "irregular" in game terms, while the gubermint is "regular" (for national guard types) and "professional" for experienced army and marines.

Make sure to use the Political Demands table, even if you aren't doing a Hearts&Minds campaign.

I think I might get a copy of those rules – they sound comprehensive!

raylev321 Jul 2015 3:13 p.m. PST

What about the civilian resistance…?

Does anyone make overweight 28mm figures wearing tin foil hats and driving old pickup trucks?

What I don't get from the conspiracy theorist is why they're concerned about a couple thousand soldiers spread across the whole south west, when there are already tens of thousands of US military based in Texas.

Given the governor's suspicions, maybe it's time for the federal government to move all those units to states that will appreciate them….just wonderin'

It seems that rules for a zombie game might be appropriate.

David in Coffs21 Jul 2015 7:44 p.m. PST

Currently waiting on MLB from DVG – might look at getting them later this year.

David in Coffs21 Jul 2015 8:35 p.m. PST

On second thoughts – bought from Wargame Vault

Weasel21 Jul 2015 8:53 p.m. PST

Heck, thanks!

Let me know if you have any questions at all.

All the campaign stuff is in the back. It'll do cold war too, but it might not end well ;-)

David in Coffs21 Jul 2015 9:39 p.m. PST

Looks like the vault has high usage at present – will have to wait to download ;~-(

Weasel21 Jul 2015 11:37 p.m. PST

If you want, pop me an email at runequester@gmail.com and I can send you the PDF correctly.
Just include the email address you purchased from.

Of course, by the time you see this, you might have already gotten it sorted out :)

David in Coffs22 Jul 2015 1:57 a.m. PST

Many thanks! Great customer service! First look at the rules and they look to be what I want from a skirmish set! :-)

Weasel22 Jul 2015 7:29 p.m. PST

Sweet :-) Thanks again!

David in Coffs23 Jul 2015 2:51 p.m. PST

I'm now suffering the classic war gamers dilemma – too many rules, too many in painted figures and too little time! But I will get a game or three in – hopefully soon….

Weasel23 Jul 2015 3:18 p.m. PST

Mix all the rules together and put all the figures on the table for te ultimate franken-game.

herzogbrian24 Jul 2015 5:35 a.m. PST

I don't see the problem. It is our Manifest Destiny to 'extend the area of freedom' over all the land from the Atlantic to the Pacific…

David in Coffs24 Jul 2015 7:23 a.m. PST

?????
