Just wondering what people are using for non-GW LOTR figures.

I am trying to put together a set from Reaper, but I am not quite happy with the Halfling/hobbit selection they have.

The top line are my favorites for the main human/elf/dwarf characters.

Since I play mass battles not RPG I stick with GW as all the other makers tend to have too few choices for each racce…

I used Musketeer Miniatures' Goth Noble Cavalry for my Rohirrim.

Thorondor, your painting is lovely. Great work!

As far as minis go, I use the old 1985 line from Citadel/GW for my LOTR. A bit cartoonish, but I was raised with the Rankin/Bass Hobbit (and certainly prefer it to the new travesty), so they look perfect to me!

I started using 15mm miniatures for 28mm hobbits.

I concur Thorondor's Rohirrim are superb thumbs up

i don't have entire units like Torondor, (seeing as i bought GW rohan for cheap when they were released) but i have started using them for heroes. the late roman general is an excellent example of the compatibility of the line!

I have some, and second the recommendation of Musketeer Miniatures Goths for Rohan.

could be any of Thorin's companions after the troll encounter, just replace the crossbow.

Just put up a post with a ton of hobbit/halfling figures and links to the various companies that still produce them.

Wish Copplestone still had his Fantasy 28mm line going. He had some legit halflings.

If anyone is interested, I have an extra unpainted 12 man unit of Goth Noble Cavalry by Musketeer Miniatures that I would like to sell.
I would like to get $36.00 USD plus $6 USD for shipping in the U.S.

PM me or email me at Rdfraf@aol.com

Thanks, Randy

I stick w/ GW's, not because there 'offical', but simply because they were (eventually) all done in Plastic.
I lost interest in 'lugging lead' yrs ago.

First, *Thorondor's "Goth Noble Cavalry" for Rohirrim, look amazing!
This is Exactly how I would expect the 'Riders of Rohan" to look.

My one 'erk' to GW's Rohan cavalry; I perfer cavalry to be facing fwd, granted a minor issue.
None the less I got only one set.
Often consider to look for some in plastic compatable w/ them to expand my Very limited cavalry.

Firstly the GW plastic LOTR are inferior to the metal, at least in detail. I hate painting on details that should be in the sculpt, such as hair and mail and bent arms that blend together.

Secondly. This post seems to be looking for non newline LOTR, as opposed to non GW. Thats the vibe I get at least.

Some one has a halfling kickstarter on a tmp board, just gone up, may help.

I like the GW/Newline figs and the smaller scale helps, but is a bit inconsistent, especially later in the ranges. I guess any other rings figures have nothing to be compared to, other than the words in the book. At least the Newlines had the films to compare to. If your not a fan of the films, I can understand not liking the figs of the same. I would otherwise just go historical and ignore fantasy figures.

Mithril Miniatures produces a great line of Middle-earth figures.

Dark Fable05 May 2017 3:53 a.m. PST

Try Copplestone miniatures. They have some excellent hobbits which are largely overlooked. Their Halfling adventurers and warriors are especially good

In a similar vein, does anyone have specific recommendations for Woses / Druadain? Though I happen to like most of GW's Newline LotR figures, the Woses are some of their worst.

I am using these figures for my One Ring SAGA ruleset.
