As Last Hussar reminded us earlier in the month TMP link today is the anniversary of the battle, and an Palm Sunday, too. Anyone mark it with a game? Out own Towton at the Phoenix will not be for several weeks. |

Actually, since the calendars changed from the Julian to the Gregorian in 1752 and we "lost" 11 days, the REAL anniversay of Towton is not until 8th April! |

Has the 11 day gap not increased since 1752?? |

Thanks for reminding us of that discrepancy, Major. |

I would say that these centurial – though not quadcenturial – days are created to keep the calender centered around the astronomical year, so these should specifically NOT be added to the date-gap. Without these, it would be 13 days now… Of course, though, we do have to consider the time from 1461 to 1752, with 1500 and 1700 adding a day. As they went back 11 from there, the actual date should be nine days hence… |

Beggar the lot of ya. Towton was officially Palm Sunday 29th March 1461. Yesterday was Palm Sunday 29 March – calendars are an artificial human construct. And yes I did play a game, though it was a fictional scenario. I was using my friend's 10mm, and appear to have picked up the Murray and Blue troops. My dice rolling was its normal extraordinary range, and it turns out you STILL can't exchange a Kingdom (1 careful owner, lots of reckless ones) for any form of equine. |

Hear! Hear! Last Hussar. Or should that be: "Huzzah!"? |
Last Hussar | 30 Mar 2015 4:01 p.m. PST |
Thank you – "Huzzah, Hussar" should suffice. Loved your career with Fulchester United. |

The anniversary is the 29th of March, because we use the Gregorian calender. (Without a calender there is no such thing as an anniversary.) People at the time of the original event were ignorant of the Gregorian calender so they can be excused for thinking it occurred on a different date. There are those who use different religious calenders who would also have a different date for Palm Sunday. I would say that these centurial – though not quadcenturial – days are created to keep the calender centered around the astronomical year, so these should specifically NOT be added to the date-gap. Without these, it would be 13 days now… All of the gap days were for this purpose, back-dated to 1AD. The gap between the Julian and Gregorian calendars is increasing. Russian Orthodox Christmas is getting further into Gregorian January. The Julian date for the Battle of Towton has not changed, but the gap between this and the Gregorian date has increased.
