Very nice, the soviets always did seem to have some really cool weapons and that's one of them!

Cheers Russ, yeah, I have been looking forward to painting this bad boy for quite some time. The Peter Pig sculpt is a lovely set.

Nice figures. Very well painted as well. I like Peter Pig miniatures a lot. Although my 15mm quad maxims are from Battle Front. I've had them for over a decade. They work both as ground mounted weapons and as those mounted on Gaz trucks. You're Soviet force is quite impressive. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks rrobby! Yeah, I've always liked PPs figures, I have some from over twenty years ago that still look great. Their range and price are really attractive as well.

I have seen photos of the Quad mounted on a Gaz truck, but this was not mentioned in the lists I am using, so ground mounted it is!

I love the quad-Maxim AA mount.

If you run Soviets, particularly early WW2 Soviets, you really do need to have some!

I have modeled mine in the more common set-up of a protected AA gun pit. Any place where the ground-mount was set-up, it was expected to be dug-in within about 2 hours. (This was the standard for infantry and artillery formations to be fully entrenched, IIRC.)

And since it was quite a beast to move, I expect most of the times it was set up it was in place for more than 2 hours!

Of course mine are at a much smaller scale (1/285th, or 6mm if you prefer). As a point of reference for the size of the figures -- they are mounted on a U.S. penny as the base.

That's fantastic Mark1, your skills are great and you have given me a great idea… I just need some Green stuff and I will make a little nest for the guns!

Abwehrschlacht -- if you are interested, I have found Mexican Clay to be far easier to work with than Green Stuff or plasticene modelling putties for the purpose of making sandbags.

I decided to put up a quick how-to of my approach in the Microscale forum here:

I expect my approach would work just as well for other scales.

Hope that helps.
