Just read that series 1 will be released on blu-ray. I haven't seen anything about this programme in the U.K. Has any TMPer watched it, and if so is it any good?

It is adequate. Of course all of the dialogue and much of the personal interactions are "historical fiction" but the main theme is accurate. The costumes for the patriots and civilians seems to be accurate but I'm not so sure about the British uniforms. Seems to be too many powdered wigs, even on the enlisted soldiers.

The portrayals of Simcoe and Rogers may or may not be accurate but I don't know much about their personal lives and attitudes to adequately make a judgement.

All in all, I'd recommend renting it first before buying it.

It is more soap opera than history. A sort of Sharpe for the AWI. I agree on renting before buying unless you find it cheap.

We found it enjoyable.

i wouldm ijmagine that if you like the Vikings TV show that you would also enjoy Turn.

The main protagonist is neither a traditional hero nor very martial. He is certainly not Sharpe at all. The actor convincingly plays a man caught between trying to stay away but needing to survive in a tricky situation. That to me is part of the charm.

Our whole family actually enjoys watching it. As long as they can continue to blend history into the show, we will be there.

I won't watch it mainly because I don't want to turn into one of those TMP idiots who have a stroke when they see that the return sprocket on the tank is wrong.

Now I find Rogers contemptible and maybe I would enjoy it for the same reason I cheer the heels on pro wrestling.

My wife and I gave up after 6 episodes. Nothing happened!

FYI Sunday starts Sons of Liberty on the History Channel. Vikings meets AWI is how one reviewer put it.

Watched a couple of episodes then realized it didn't really draw me into it so I stopped watching it.

I've seen the trailers for SoL. Not impressed.

Thanks everybody-definitely a mixed reception, but I did enjoy Vikings so I might give it a go.

If you like well made historical drams then I highly recommend it. I think today we are spoilt for choice and if you like the following as I do, then you'll definitely get into Turn: John Adams, The Borgias, Rome, Outlander, Vikings, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and the list goes on.

Some people of course are never satisfied but I for one think we've never had it so good.

As long as it has tricorns, muskets and turnbacks, I will watch it. I don't really care what the plot is.

It would be nice if they could get rid of the powdered wigs for the British.

It is supposed to be entertainment. I was entertained.

nevinsrip22 Jan 2015 1:12 p.m. PST

I watched it and will continue to watch it. I do wish that they would tone down the love triangle aspect a bit.

The Simcoe character is almost cartoonish. I wonder what he was like in real life?

Same for the Rogers portrayal.

KTravlos22 Jan 2015 2:27 p.m. PST

I liked it. Initially I was very hesitant because of TMP reviews, but it was really good and fun. I like the protagonist. Simcoes character is over the top but fun.

Watching it inspired me to finally complete a half-painted unit of Continental Dragoons in 28mm which had sadly languished for over a year.

I enjoyed the series on television, but do not think I'd buy a personal copy.

However, if the series had not been aired in my viewing area, and I was involved with a local gaming group interested in the AWI, and the blue-ray copy was quite reasonable priced, I would recommend investing in the series.

I liked it,but I enjoy watching Fess Parker, too. At least the uniforms are miles ahead of that.

I found it enjoyable. Not the best show on tv but certainly not the worst. If historical shows were as exactly like real life I think we would find them drab and boring.

Sorry all but I found it tripe. Like basileus66 I stopped watching after episode three. Paul B, don't buy it till you've seen it, you could be very sorry. The whole thing is more like the Irish revolution than the american one.
At least the vikings did'nt have Irish accents.
