Milk mustache is a nice touch :)

Deeman27 Dec 2014 12:25 p.m. PST

Not to mention the unibrow. This is terrible.

I suspect she's supposed to be some form of "undead." Probably evocative of what she's like in bed.

In deference to the artist, I suspect what they were trying to do was highlight the shading on the face but I agree the effect falls flat. Pity though, they nailed the translucent fabric effect well enough. They missed the face though with too much highlighting and shadows. Still I think its at least an acceptable effort.

Still, I like the skill lads, I have a lot of brain cells popping on the 'how to' and 'what paints' will work to achieve this. So I do give it a 9 out of 10 tweddle on the actual doing of .
Cheers, practise and magic makes perfect.

Unibrow is the worst part, the fair skin doesn't bother me at all. The figure is inspired by "Miranda – The Tempest" after all.

Jason O Mahony27 Dec 2014 5:04 p.m. PST

I think this is more the effect that they were hoping for:

Put a bag on her head, and it would be a nice example of painting sheer clothing.

That face still looks better then most of my attempts…

Zardoz29 Dec 2014 3:36 a.m. PST

Well I think it's pretty damn good. the translucent clothing is very good. A 28mm mini photographed that closely is always going to have some minor flaws that you wouldn't see at normal viewing distances. And it's a hell of a lot better that some offerings I've seen posted here.

It's great work on the translucent clothing, especially on such a small model, the highlights stand out a bit too much in that photo, however, it's miles better than a lot of the tosh that is shown on here with people giving the 'looks great' comments, when it looks like it was painted by a colour blind chimp on class A drugs and really is a mess of paint slapped on with no neatness and then at most the god awful dip method that is so loved on here. (not that I can paint well either, but at least I try and make it look neat).

Not a horrible paint job but hardly the sort I would brag about.
The face is not good.
Closeups are not your friend.

I always admire anyone who can paint cloth to look even remotely realistic. I'll forgive the face since the figure is 28mm.

The artist is not happy:

Many thanks to the experts from TMP. WeŽd like to see you doing better!

i don't blame him. Constructive criticism is a good thing but simply slagging a miniature off is plain rude. Anyway, as mr Surfer said, there's a lot of pics of poorly painted figures posted on this site that are far more deserving of the contempt that has been shown to this model.

Finally I have a good description of my painting style

it looks like it was painted by a colour blind chimp on class A drugs and really is a mess of paint slapped on with no neatness

Thank you

John

Faces are a different skill set than the rest of a miniature, especially in this age of washes and blending.

alien BLOODY HELL surfer09 Jan 2015 6:49 a.m. PST

jwebster mine is much the same (and slow), wasn't meant to knock anyone's painting ability personally, was just pointing out how this figure is getting criticised for the painting when lots of others don't grin

I wish I could paint that well :-)

And I am sure ALL here full of criticism can do it better…
