I like your pics of the brigade advance. Those 10mm figures are surprisingly detailed, aren't they? It's hard to tell from your photos whether they are 10mm, 15mm, 20mm, or even 25mm. Good compromise between mass effect and individual detail.

Chris

KTravlos24 Nov 2014 4:00 a.m. PST

Yes. I have painted almost all scales (6mm, 10mm, 15mm, 20mm, 25mm, 28mm, 54mm). I can say that when it comes to the compromise between what I want and what I can get, 10mm works well. In many ways it has less detail then 6mm (Bacchus) at least, which means they are more versatile and faster to paint. Which for me now is the main point. How fast can I get a tolerable result.

Some flag swaps and the white tunic battalions could be used as semi-ok proxies for a number of 19th century armies.

Above link contains couple photos of 1859 Austrians. Well they will also see service for 1866. True the waffenrock was only for parades in 1866 when the grey greatcoat was worn but hate the idea of painting two separate Austrian forces. First picture taken with my iPad and ever posted so trial pics of front and back of a few figures. Enough to contribute I hope for now. Perhaps later more comprehensive photo of the collection

ChrisBBB28 Nov 2014 4:40 p.m. PST

Oh, those Austrians are nice. Please do show us the rest of the collection. (And I agree – same army is good for 1859 and 1866!)

Now just hold on a minute there -Austrians were sporting great coats in 1866- evn in Italy -the swines!!!
This hasn't stopped me fielding white coated regiments needless to say.

hopefully soon i'll get several shots up of my austrians as well as some french.later on i'll add prussian and some crimean war brits. the above link in the earlier post will still take you to the album. i just deleted the pics i had with the ipad and went with some new ones from my sony camera which give better quality photos and added a couple french dragoon shots from foundry. still playing around a little bit with picture taking and uploading the photos to get a feel for what i like.

Thank you KT. And thanks for asking others to share their armies. Some what ashamed as I often prior to starting a project will view other people's works to help in my decision making in what armies, scales, and manufactures to use. It seem only fair to start posting some of my own collections if that would of use for others to assist in their own decision making. We are a community of people so in a sense ashamed for viewing other people's works while neglecting to share mine to the possible benefit of others. The battle honor figures are very affordable if you prefer larger scale and a perfect size fit with foundry and castaway arts to cover 1859, 1866, and 1870. The one weakness is their cavalry sculpts. Dated and not the best and sorely tempted to use North Star figures in their place the only drawback would be cost. I don't paint figures I paint armies. My Austrians will comprise over 400 figures so cost plays a role as well as painting style. Though I like keeping my figures painted to a nice standard it is the intention to balance that standard with the effect of creating an army. For me that's why I like this hobby creating armies and recreating history. anyway later on I'll add artillery, additional cavalry, grenzers and the kaiser jaegers in addition to other nineteenth century armies and a vast collection of dark age armies.

Well I wish you joy in your en-devour and hope to see more of your work. Personally I have gone down the 10mm path: fast, cheap, and can be played either small places or en masse in bigger ones.

But 28mm has its charms (as I know from my own 28mm projects).

BlackWidowPilot Fezian30 Nov 2014 4:48 p.m. PST

OK. You lot asked for it. As soon as I am able this week, I'll post shots of my Taiping Rebellion armies, a mix of Foundry and Reviresco plus extras, just to show you Foreign Devils a thing or three about how a proper, civilized army looks!evil grin

We await your exotic army with anticipation! Are they Taipings and Imperials? or just one side! And please Ever Victorious Amry pics!

BlackWidowPilot Fezian01 Dec 2014 12:07 p.m. PST

Both Taipings and Imperials. No EVA as I had originally built the armies to be used *together* for Boxer Rebellion, Opium Wars, and the Sino-French War in Indochine (and yes, when I *finally* get them done! I'll share photos of my Marsouins on my blog).

I also have two watchtowers and a quartet of war junks in various states of production, but again, time is my great enemy at the moment… But at least I have managed to finish my Chinese Horde suitable for everything from the Taiping Rebellion to the Sino-Japanese War 1894-95 to fantasy battles against orcs and goblins if need be…..evil grin
