Guys,

I finally watched Ender's Game. I heard so many awful reviews that I didn't even give it a chance, until now that it happened to be playing when I turned on the tv.

Why didn't you guys tell me of all the awesome alien corridors and terrain potential???

Whatever you may think of the plot and the acting, I simply couldn't get enough of those alien set designs and the associated cgi textures! I'm gonna be digging up screencaps and concept art, to get a more detailed idea of the Formic's hive-like architecture. I can see lots of potential for SF, VSF, Pulp, Fantasy, and so much more! From Formics all the way down to Selenites.

Even the Formic's surface terrain features have potential too:

But the REAL beauty is what was done for below the surface …

I really like how they combined the original Formic architecture with that of the humans that came after:

And the movie wasn't that bad, either :)

Agree on the great terrain and the movie being not bad.

The stuff in the movie was pretty cool. I liked the design of the formic ships.

My God! What enormous dust collectors and wastes of space.

"My God! What enormous dust collectors and wastes of space."

Critics probably said the same thing about the Parthenon when it was first built :)

Dust? Lol.

Don't worry. Insects have breathing spiracles already equipped with their own built-in air filtration system:

Great photos… and I really liked the movie too.

Okay, I've had the movie FOREVER on BD sitting in front of the TV in hesitation it was as bad as reported. (Got cheap REALLY fast.)

I suppose I'll have to watch, now. THANKS, Dan et al… ;->=

If you enjoyed the book you will probably enjoy the movie as it remains true to the book. I suspect that the critics reviews had as much to do with the opinions that Card expresses as the quality of the movie. Several groups asked for a boycott of the movie, not because it expressed those views (it doesn't) as much as to injure the company that made the film and thereby Mr. Card.

Weasel25 Sep 2014 9:15 a.m. PST

I thought the book was okay but severely over-rated. It felt like the transcript of an anime show only without the spectacle.

Most people I know who adore it read it either as kids or as one of the first scifi novels they ever read, and I didn't, so I think I probably missed out on something.

Card is a despicable human being who have advocated armed insurgency in the US but I've enjoyed books with other noxious views (Robert Howard and HP Lovecraft). The book is the book and the man is the man.

Movie was dross but it had very nice visuals as inspiration for gaming. It's a good enough flick to put on while you paint.

Yes… OSC is a pretty awful human being these days and I'd be loath to see my dollars in his pocket, but all that aside this is nice design work. Its not easy to design alien bio-architecture without looking like you're ripping off HR Giger and "Aliens".

Lol

Guys, imagine the Formic textures and contours along passages on levels stacked, one upon the other, such as seen here:

PS. Hey Beast (Doug), I think you'll enjoy watching the movie. Go for it!

I was reading Asimov and Herbert as a teen.

I didn't see EG (book until loooong afterwards) snd "Young adult" fiction (as it was known) held no appeal for me.

Guys,

Check out these shapes (built with crumbly):

That foam is very easy to work with and once you're finished, you can seal it with a non solvent acrylic.

Very interesting, could make for terrain features of their home world.
