Hope springs Eternal… from the latest KS update link
In other news, we've now talked with three different factories about the Ogre miniatures and what it would take to translate the metal miniatures into plastic minis mounted on sprues. We have no final decisions, but I wanted to update all of you on where we stand with this as of today: In progress. When we secure final manufacturing numbers and know exactly what it would cost to take these to plastic we will have more to say on the subject.

There are so many partners SJG could work with on this, if they really wanted to make it a reality. Wargames Factory comes to mind, for one. I remember suggesting this on their forums about 10 years ago and not getting a good reception. While I'd love to see it happen, I'm not going to hold my breath for it. |

What I understood from Jon Paulson (guy behind Mecha Front) is that Wargames Factory is pretty much booked solid, I believe that is also the case with Renedra. Whether this is a success or not (with the consumers) depends on quality, cost and design. |

I'm hopeful on this. I've waited this long for plastic miniatures, I can wait a bit longer. As long as they stick to the same scale and design so they work with my existing metal Ogre Minatures, I'm happy. |

I believe that part of the issue is that Evil Stevie is pretty much insistent that any plastics match the quality of the metals. I am not sure if that includes size. If it got them into production I would welcome 3mm Ogre plastics as an alternative to the current 6mm designs. Although I really like the 6mm and have a collection like many other Ogre fans, so that would be my preference. The massive success of the Designer's Edition KickStarter speaks volumes for the enthusiasm of Ogre fans when presented with quality products for our favourite games. |

Let's be honest – the only way that Ogre will ever be a high-quality, supported, complete miniatures game, is if there is a million-dollar Kickstarter that does exactly one thing. Buy the franchise outright, and give the license to Fantasy Flight Games for a complete make-over. And I say this as a man who bought his first Martian Metals Ogre miniatures in 1979. |

There really is no need to wait for plastic or re-release of the metal models, which is unlikely to happen unless someone buys the Ogre franchise. There are so many 6mm sci fi vehicles out that can proxy in the ogreverse just fine. I personally have tons of the old Ral Partha OGRE minis, well over 6000 pts worth from the game values, but am switching to 3mm. Some posts on pico armor and an actual purchase of some left me quite impressed with their quality and the price cannot be beat. Huge armies can be had cheaply and Battletech and CAV armored vehicles make great OGRE fill ins. TMP link TMP link TMP link TMP link |

Proxy miniatures are fine if you are just starting to build up your Ogre forces, but I'd like something that matches the 2000+ miniatures that I already have. |

Yeah, maybe I'm cynical, but I'll believe this when the Greeks measure time by the kalends . . . |

Steve Jackson is the George Lucas of gaming. |

I'd jump right into a KS for plastic Ogre miniatures. I think if this was marketed properly, it could be quite successful. On the other hand, SJ has made it clear in the past that he doesn't really care about Ogre Miniatures or the fans of the game. I've seen suggestions on the SJG forum about outsourcing or licencing production of Ogre miniatures which have always been met by excuses or just scilence. So I'll take this with a grain of salt. |

For a while now I've felt like Ogre miniatures fans are Charlie Brown to SJ's Lucy holding the football… |

I'm really confused by Steve Jackson's attitude towards OGRE and OGRE miniatures. OGRE has often been referred to as "Steve's Baby" and wouldn't outsource or sell it off to any interested party, yet he keeps treating it and it's fans like SJG's bastard children. What gives? |

You nailed it, Artraccoon. You nailed it. |

Having watched Ogre miniatures ebb and flow over 35 years, it all comes down to this: to produce a great miniatures game, you have to have to be a miniatures gamer at heart. Steve Jackson has made a lot of games that a lot of people like, and he has provided thousands of people with countless hours of entertainment. But he's just not a miniatures gamer, and since he isn't, Ogre will never be a great miniatures game. Once I realized this, I was finally able to smile at Lucy when she held up the football, and walk away. |
