With O8's latest release of a GEV-type vehicle, we can now play Ogre in 3mm. The only miniature that is missing is the regular Howitzer and O8's Mobile Howitzer can stand in for that until something better is released:
Of course, the star of the game – the Ogre – still hasn't been done. Plasmablast's Marhaff Legion tanks make excellent stand-ins, however, especially with a bit of conversion work:

Sounds real good and this would be great news for someone who has NO OGRE minis whatsoever. And since I have over 500 of OGRE minis I don't see a need to duplicate in 2 different scales. This is almost like saying to a Naval gamer who has a large 1/1200th scale ship collection that this new 1/2400th scale range just came out and you can have all those ships but in a smaller scale. Just my two cents. |
justBill | 12 Jul 2014 9:31 a.m. PST |
Then why would you comment other than to tell us how many ogre minis you have? |
MrAverage | 12 Jul 2014 9:37 a.m. PST |
Well, with "true" Ogre miniatures on the rocks at the moment, those of us not lucky or wealthy (or, let's admit it, foresighted) enough to have 500 of them on hand, we now have another option. If you've got a bunch already, then go like gangbusters – I don't think Dave is saying you HAVE to buy anything. But with limited space and money, this is a good alternative for me, at least! |

Captain, the point is that since the Ogre Designer's Edition came out, there has been renewed interest in Ogre miniatures. And since those minis are once more out of production, people might be interested in finding proxies. I myself have plenty of Ogre minis as well, but I'm still interested in seeing what alternatives there are, even in a smaller scale. One other point: 3mm castings would make the maps a lot less crowded--especially 3mm versions of the cybertanks, since the 6mm versions take up two (and sometimes more!) hexes on the Ogre maps. |

Oh, and can the original poster please provide a link? |

I have about 60 of the Ogre miniature vehicles and 4 of the Ogres themselves but I am drawn to the 3mm ones as I really can't expand on my current collection since Ogre miniatures are oop. |

justBill I have my reasons and I don't need to explain them to you. MrAverage the bulk of my 500 plus OGRE Miniatures I acquired in the space of 2 months or so around this time last year after playing OGRE for the very first time and from that point on I was hooked. Very few of the minis did I get brand new the bulk of them I bought used from several people who didn't game with them anymore so I lot I got for reasonable prices so most of them just wanted to get back what they put into OGRE. And my OGRE collection doesn't take up that much space anyway. DesertScrb I got into OGRE before the Designer's Edition came out. I also have a small number of Battletech vehicles which I intend to use as an Enemy/Alien Force to fight the OGRE forces. Rdfraf since the OGRE miniatures are OOP for the most part you can always post of Batertown here on TMP or EBAY. Batertown is where I found a lot of my OGRE minis and for reasonable prices. |

Well, buying the entire conventional OoB of Ogre DE in 3mm will run you around 150 USD. The opening bid on 8 GEVs now on sale on Ebay is 15 USD. You can get twice as many 3mm GEVs at less than 1/3rd the price. Plus, you can play Ogre at half scale in 3mm. Obviously, if you already have a good 6mm set, you will want tomstick with that. But for those of us who don't, 3mm is a real time, space and money saver. Hell, even if you DO have a 6mm set, you can build yourself and Ogre travel kit in 3mm for under 50 USD. |

For me it just comes down to prior investment. I have a bunch of Ogre miniatures, and apart from wanting a few others to fill in gaps, I'm good. Plus, I'm not the worlds fastest painter of armies, and somehow I've ended up with more Ogre miniatures left to paint than when I started, as evidenced here: link Which must mean I'm a true wargamer. ;-) |
Lion in the Stars | 13 Jul 2014 10:02 a.m. PST |
Gotta agree about the prior investment thing. Sadly, I ended up selling my KS edition of OGRE DE. It didn't stay on the shelf very long at the game store, either. I'd really love to see those Pico Armor tanks in 15mm, they are spitting images of the armor in the Colonial Marines Tech Manual! |
Zakalwe64 | 14 Jul 2014 7:25 a.m. PST |
Lady Pink, I love your Ogre stuff, so I am looking forward to seeing it all painted. I have a six mm Ogre minis force painted up in Nova Brasilia colors somewhere in the basement, but even then, moat of the figs were from other manufacturers. There is no way I could spend 650USD to flesh it out. But for less that 200 USD, I am going to be able to get two entire Ogre armies. Lion, O8 has pretty much everything up now from the Colonial Marines Tech Manual. |

For those of you with loads of the original 6mm Ogre miniatures, why are you even bothering to post? This product is OBVIOUSLY not targeted at you, but at the many, many people who for whatever reason don't have huge collections of OOP miniatures but still want to play the game. |
Legion 4 | 17 Jul 2014 7:36 a.m. PST |
Some very nice models !!! I like the little Infantrymen ! I think for SF gaming, 2-3 mm is probably the best option … |

mdauben; For those of you with loads of the original 6mm Ogre miniatures, why are you even bothering to post? Because it's OK for anyone to talk on a forum as long as they are polite and respectful. This product is OBVIOUSLY not targeted at you, but at the many, many people who for whatever reason don't have huge collections of OOP miniatures but still want to play the game. I would dispute your reasoning here, but respect that you are entitled to your opinion. |

Because it's OK for anyone to talk on a forum as long as they are polite and respectful. True, but I don't see the point of posting just to say "I've already got a zillion Ogre minis so I'm not interested in these". There are lots of miniature lines I'm not interested, but I don't see any point in posting messages to threads about them just to say so. I would dispute your reasoning here, but respect that you are entitled to your opinion. You own post says you are not interested, so how is this product targeted at you??? Sorry, maybe its just sour grapes. I foolishly assumed that the Ogre miniatures line was going to be in production long enough for me to assemble a collection but it went out of production again so quickly it left me both disappointed and annoyed. Feel free to ignore my grumbling on the subject. ;-) |
Paint it Pink | 19 Jul 2014 7:15 a.m. PST |
Consider yourself ignored ;-) BTW: I'm a big SF fan and wargamer, and just because right here and now I'm not in the market for 3mm, doesn't mean that I may never be in the market for 3mm. Check out my site if you don't believe a woman can be interested in wargaming: panther6actual.blogspot.co.uk |

I, for one, am happy to hear what one of the world's best Ogre Minis painters has to say, even if she doesn't ever buy 3mm. I do think there will be some crossover with current OM players, however, because 3mm is just so cheap and portable. |

No false humility. But think about this, Ms. Pink: ALL the conventional units for Body Blow will cost around USD 70 or GBP 48. How much does a SJG Ogre cost now…? |
