I really felt inspired yesterday… new sculptures designed, moulded and made in a day.
I really felt inspired yesterday having released the first batch of my 1914/15 French Army miniatures earlier this week. It was one of those days when inspired by some of my photo's of French infantry of the early war period, I set out to create some new additions.
I came up with 3 men with mounted St Etienne HMG on 3 push bikes, an infantryman standing holding his rifle mid way through fixing his bayonet and another French infantryman sitting slumped on his rifle, having removed his back pack after a long route march.

The inspiration came on, the sculpting and modelling began. All these did not exist on the morning of the 5th august, but by the end of that day, they had been created, and moulded, the moulds cut.
After a swift game of tennis this morning (Usual Wednesday morning activity/treat), I rushed home and span the moulds. These are the first castings.

Inspiration indeed……..

Very nice, especially like the bicycles.

Great figures, very creative. I like the bicycle set.

When you say "push bike" do you mean they are not ridden, just pushed along with the weapon attached?

My whole 1914-1939 collection of figures is in 28mm so I cannot use these, but I have lots of bicycles and MMGs and walking men so I will convert some to this set. "This highest form of flattery"

By the way, you might have been a bit shell shocked from your efforts when you posted the pictures on you site :)

Fantastic figures!

(Mine are all 15mm)

As the bicycles in the picture have pedals, I'm presuming "push bike" is meant as non-motorized and one has to push on the pedals with feet to make it go.

British and Americans – one people separated by a language. grin

I was thinking of the Viet Cong push bikes used to move supplies along the Ho Trail. These had peddles too, I believe.

Tarleton06 Aug 2014 11:47 a.m. PST

Given the loading, I'd say the French bikes would be ridden.

push bike, as a name is how I have personally always refered to bicycles? It's a north London thing I guess?
These were "riden" but knowing weight of these guns, I would not fancy riding these things up too many hills?
Great concept though, makes these important assets more portable.

I could not find any more reference pictures but I suspect there were 2 or 3 more in the unit for ammunition carrying?

Got plans to do early war French riders of push bikes as well. In infantry companies these are described as " agents du transmission". – that's runners to you and me! Working on bugler or clarion and drummers as well. Very colourful army. Zouaves have been made, 5 in all so far, plus 1 chasseurs Alpines.
Dismounted dragons also on the list.

Another, WW1 project now has jumped the list a bit.
It offers a very colourfully, fluid, set of campaigns using both old and the latest technology. Colurmes, cavalry, revolution, big hats………… Can you guess the setting for our new Ww1 period miniatures yet?

Question, Paul-- I am just starting to research WW I and I was curious as to whether you will be doing Germans in Pickelhaubes to go with these wonderful 1914 French models? Thanks for any info!
