Hey everybody, I'm trying with little success to find out if there's any source material for the appearance, organization, and armament of the Irish during this period. Anyone have any leads?

Both worth reading though I remain puzzled by Lenihan's take on Owen Roe.

If you have access to a good library get a copy of Casaway Owen Roe O'Neil and the struggle for Catholic Ireland it is the most thorough military treatment of the war. Sadly its oop and very dear to buy.

Hayes McCoy Irsh Battles is very affordable now and worth getting for its chapters on Benburb and Rathmines.

Try Khurasan Miniatures for the appearance of Irish troops the ones not dressed like that wore English clothes. The Highlanders in the confederate forces looked like Highlanders.

You can see the Khurasan Irish here.

The cavalry of the Army of Ulster mostly carried lances.

Hollick's book on the Battle of Benburb is the best book I've read on the war in Ireland even if it concentrates on this one battle.

There are some recent drawings of soldiers in the book which I think are pretty accurate – from what we know.

I must get round to reading Hollick the last book I read on the subject was O Siochru that was pretty good.

Coincidentally I watched a dramatised documentary on this very subject last night on the Hitler channel. It was quite good, going into some depth on tactics, and there was plenty of re-enactment footage – although I very much doubt that the real Cromwell had an Irish accent.
