Hi folks! My friend and I are getting into 15mm; specifically Gruntz, and we're looking for suitable infantry minis at the moment. He's decided on Khurasan's SEAL DEVGRU operators, which are great-looking models with a slight scifi vibe, but aren't too far in the future.

He's going for a force recon platoon, while I'm more interested in building a professional mercenary force. I'm still looking around for minis to suit my taste. A few I like are Rebelminis' Drop Troops, Khurasan's Feds and Control Battalion, the ArmiesArmy RUSKs, GZG's NSL, etc.

Preferably, I'd like to get my hands on minis that won't be too pricey for the US and available in starter sets, but that's secondary to the appearance. What would you suggest for minis with a good 'merc' feel to them (but still being high-tech)?

I (Clearhorizon Miniatures) will be releasing these very soon:

It will be a squad of eight for $7.99 USD

The Stealth Trooper second from the right will be in a 2-pack Covert Ops Squad.

I have a convention this weekend where I will have packs available, and then about a week after that I will have them available on the website:

ClearHorizon Miniatures Store

And I do have the Hell Divers released:

Critical Mass Games has a line of Alien Merc figures too.

I think you have named some great models for human merc proxies already. Armies army has nailed near future scifi as has clear horizon.

Im using the gzg NSL (new ones) for just that purpose

Alien mercs that's a different story… khurasan's jasmine throne or rebels pan galactic legion or 15MM/uk mix of different species especially there star Vikings.

Glad u guys made the plunge to 15mm!

Aristo, I've got a set of infantry hopefully coming out within a month that you might be interested in. The Jong-PAC.

The concept art shows them a little better:

Those look fantastic! Really spot-on for the look I'm going for. Do you have more details regarding the weapons they'll come with and the squad size?

khurasanminiatures21 May 2014 7:56 a.m. PST

Six rifle poses, a leader pose, two LMG type weapons, and two rocket launchers. That's the starting line-up, fine for most games I think. If they really take off it's a simple matter to expand the range.

The painter has had them for three months but not painted them, so I've asked him to send them to another painter. The caster has had them even longer but the moulds are not made yet. I put in a nag last month so we'll see. I think they are having family issues and also did the casting work on a big kickstarter, which sucks the air out of the room once again. :-|

Ah, sorry to hear the project's been a bumpy road. Hopefully they'll come around soon enough; I'd love to get my hands on those minis.

Coincidentally, I'm off to China in a few days for a while, and I'll check back on them when I return.

zonk7621 May 2014 9:01 a.m. PST

Hope they get back on track Khurasan!

I've made up a TO&E (platoon level) for a PMC force to use in TW with ClearHorizon Hell Divers as the minis. They're a stand alone force with somewhat experimental weapons…etc…

I'd be interested to see your take on their TOE

khurasanminiatures21 May 2014 9:03 a.m. PST

I should point out there's nothing unusual at all in this -- what's truly unusual is if a range doesn't hit its head on every stair on the way down! grin

zonk7621 May 2014 9:03 a.m. PST

oops…missed the "Near Future" part, sorry about that. ClearHorizon still works, but I could definitely see the Khurasan SEALs in that roll as well.

Aristo21 May 2014 9:47 a.m. PST

Those SEALs are what my buddy is using. I like 'em too, although I don't want to run the exact same minis.

By the way, I'm open to vehicle suggestions too. I like GZG's stuff, although it gets pricey once you convert the currency and add shipping.

Armiesarmy21 May 2014 9:58 a.m. PST

Its been a 'little' while since you may of seen these…

If your buddy is using Khurasan's SEAL DEVGRU minis, I'd go for Armies Army's PLA if you wanted comparably-teched troops.

There's also Rebel Mini's Titan Marines.

zonk7621 May 2014 11:34 a.m. PST

I'm looking forward to the ArmiesArmy PLA releases…those look awesome. I love the Commonwealth figures I have!

Armiesarmy21 May 2014 12:42 p.m. PST

PLA have support weapons, HQ, heavy gun drones and heavy weapons available soon. They are moulded, just awaiting my shop launch. Hard suited troops, special forces and something a bit different ready not to long after. Shop will be ready in around a month give or take working life:)

The Model Nines are tall biotroopers that were originally designed as near-future soldiers. They run big, but their gear is a blend of MOLLE and Land Warrior Advanced.

Good news on both fronts. Looking forward to combining Jong-PAC with PLA for my PanHuman Union faction.
