I know this had probably been asked before, but am thinking about going into 6mm scifi and am wondering what some of the best ranges are?

Angel Barracks24 Apr 2014 10:48 a.m. PST

Best cast?
Most choice?
Cheapest?
Best value for money?
Ranges that are updated?
Best for mass battles?
Best for skirmish?

Etc etc…

What is the dream you have?
Only then can we guide you.

MajorB24 Apr 2014 10:55 a.m. PST

GZG and Angel Barracks

MrAverage24 Apr 2014 11:00 a.m. PST

Microworld Games, Plasmablast, CinC, Darkest Star, Dark Realm, Exodus Wars…

taskforce5824 Apr 2014 11:11 a.m. PST

You can also use GHQ's modern line as near future hard sci-fi type games. A lot of modern AFVs have a very sci-fi look to them (e.g. Merkava IV, Leopard 2A6, BMP-T).

I was thinking something in line with Keiths 5th Foreign Legion books and Drakes Hammers Slammers. Platoon and company level stuff.

Gaz004524 Apr 2014 11:36 a.m. PST

For Hammers Slammers you need Old Crow……..and then fill in the rest with vehicles from GZG,Brigade,Angel Barracks,Irregular Minis and those mentioned above…..Khurasan's new 6 mm stuff is very nice too!

I don't think there's really a bad range, although Irregular's can be…irregular (but they do some stuff no one else does).

Don't forget Brigade Models! Lots of stuff and very complete lines available.

CPBelt24 Apr 2014 2:32 p.m. PST

Remember Zombiesmith's 6mm Quar as well.

Second for Brigade Models. Excellent assortment of minis for all 6mm sci-fi subgenres and the gents that run it are extraordinarily courteous and helpful with special orders.

If you want Hammers then Old Crow and Brigade spring to mind.
Maybe some GHQ moderns too as infantry/civvies and maybe some GZG too.

Mine is the wrong look I feel, which is a shame.
Dark Realm and Exodus and Onslaught are fantasy in space (not in a bad way, just they are)
Darkest Star may have some models that will gel?

Although AB's figures might not fit, take a look at his civilian/junker figures and his buildings for table dressing….

Allen5725 Apr 2014 6:31 a.m. PST

For Slammers infantry I went with GZGs NAC infantry.

O.K. … I know some thing about this evil grin – Exodus Wars, Trouble Maker & Onslaught[all available on the Exodus Wars site], CinC/PFC[you can get Renegade Legion AFVs and other nice lines here], Microworld, Old Crow [for Slammer AFVs], GZG [Slammer Grunts,] GZG., Angel Barracks, Darkest Star, Zombiesmith – 6mm Quar, Plasmablast, Brigade … off the top of my head … evil grin See more intel on the Tactical Command site, and join; it's free – link … if you were on Tac Cmd, you'd already know the "Best 6mm scifi" … wink Also I note no one mentioned Games Workshop Epic. The only place you can get that is on eBay or if some of the Boyz on Tac Cmd have extras … which on many occasions they do … evil grin I've lead you to the water … it's up to you drink … wink **** Also to get 6mm Old Crow Slammers you have to e-mail Jez direct – link

I Love Plasmablast Games figures. There new Marhaf Legion are some of the best Sci-Fi tanks to come out in a while.

CNC has some amazing infantry called Solar Empire Marines. Probably the best overall set of 6mm figures out there.

CinC SEM link line is great ! And has more great stuff coming. A lot of neat humans and unique alien infantry with more to come.

For mechs, it's impossible to beat the value of the plastic mechs from EM4 Miniatures.

Once upon a time many years ago this would have been GW.

But being GW they decided that there was no money in EPIC Scale.

Angel Barracks28 Apr 2014 12:22 p.m. PST

And they were right.

Yes, GW missed the space boat with that decision … Frankly I'm glad. I like most of the new 6mm Sci-fi other companies make as well. Of course GW and FW's crazy prices for their 40K scale stuff is really "out of this world" !!!! huh?
