While the discussion regarding the Tharpe Armoured Ogres was very interesting, I felt it was starting to hi-jack Khurasan's discussion of the greens for his new Orcs, especially as his webstore has now reopened. Admittedly, hearing the reasoning behind why Khurasan's Orcs look the way they do was very interesting, too. It isn't too often that you get the opportunity to learn where a manufacturer is coming from when they bring out a range, especially in a genre as broad and subjective as "Fantasy". Anyway, as we were happily getting off track, I promised Dan that I would post some pics of the Tharpe Ogres (now stocked by Splintered Light) that I have painted up. The couple of pics grew into a rambly little article which I ended up posting on my gaming blog, here link |

Yes, but I had an opportunity to get the 20mm ones for a good price and ogres seemed the best option to list them under. Of course, real ogres would be bulkier. :) |

Thanks for the comments, guys. I'm glad Splintered Light picked up these guys as they are very nice figures. Just musing and wondered if "Hobgoblin" might be a better term for them, rather than Ogre, describing a large goblin. Traditional D&D Hobgoblins have a very distinctive, vaguely Japanese look but, like pig-faced orcs, are possibly too tied to the D&D IP. If we're looking at a not-quite-Tolkien-not-quite-D&D Fantasy world, there could very well be room for a race of large Goblinoids who either run bands of smaller orcs and goblins, or are used by Evil Wizards or Dark Lords as shock troops as they're smarter than trolls and more biddable and disciplined than ogres. |
