Could that Loofah also be used as a shape charge? Man that is one tough seed pod "of death". The end result looks great, and would make a great base for bocage but I may pass if it is that hard to cut.

Wow! I'm sorry to be the cause of your suffering. I guess the lesson is that not all loofahs are created equal, or as you say, maybe yours was treated with something to make it more durable..
Mine took a little force to slice, but nowhere near the amount of effort yours did.
Mine was a cheap one off of eBay..

Goober I've got a feeling that I've seen or heard somewhere that most loofas that people buy nowadays are artificial i.e. manmade and not real natural seedpods so that might be your trouble.

I'm pretty confident it was natural – there was still a seed lodged in it.
