It's an early warning system. They would spread lightbulbs out to detect these "creatures" as they are normally invisible. What he is wearing would start to go off when one of these things was close. I'll avoid further spoilers. Odd film. I enjoyed it. |

It looks like they have a geometric surface. I think with the right paint job you could accomplish something similar to the pics you posted (would possibly need a clear bead for transparency). The key would be having a large number of facets.

I used to have some clear glass ones, with swirly colors inside. Try checking eBay, or a children's game store. |

At a reasonable price, you might look at "Crystal" Cateye Marbles. They tend to be clear with some colored structure inside Like:

Wow, those marbles AVAMANGO found are spectacular! Originally I was going to suggest a type of plastic bead, but those marbles blow them away completely! I don't really have a need for those cracked glass marbles but now I'm trying to justify a purchase. |

I have to admit that using a marble as a force field is a pretty good idea and its cheap, simply hot glue them to a coin for stability and away you go. Just to let you know Dan those cracked glass marbles you like come in a rainbow of different colors. :) Zac |
