Why has that guy got an Altec-Lansing iMac speaker strip hanging off his shoulder?

Tango India Mike09 Mar 2014 10:28 a.m. PST

Drown out the sound from his headphones???

It's an early warning system. They would spread lightbulbs out to detect these "creatures" as they are normally invisible. What he is wearing would start to go off when one of these things was close. I'll avoid further spoilers. Odd film. I enjoyed it.

It looks like they have a geometric surface. I think with the right paint job you could accomplish something similar to the pics you posted (would possibly need a clear bead for transparency). The key would be having a large number of facets.

I used to have some clear glass ones, with swirly colors inside.

Try checking eBay, or a children's game store.

At a reasonable price, you might look at "Crystal" Cateye Marbles.
They tend to be clear with some colored structure inside

Avamango!

Wow. Did you just search for "marbles" on ebay, or something else?

CC – put the below in an eBay search:

PEACH-CRACKLED-GLASS-MARBLES-HAND-MADE

or

NEW-25-FAIRY-22mm-GLASS-MARBLES-TRADITIONAL-GAME-or-COLLECTORS-ITEMS

I looked at the HTML source of AVAMANGO's post to get it.

Ancestral Hamster09 Mar 2014 5:38 p.m. PST

Wow, those marbles AVAMANGO found are spectacular! Originally I was going to suggest a type of plastic bead, but those marbles blow them away completely!

I don't really have a need for those cracked glass marbles but now I'm trying to justify a purchase.

Cacique Caribe09 Mar 2014 6:37 p.m. PST

I know, right?

That first set is amazing!

By the way, a while back I even considered using the clear side of vending machine capsules, as was once suggested by javelin98:

But, until today I never thought marbles might be the solution.

I have to admit that using a marble as a force field is a pretty good idea and its cheap, simply hot glue them to a coin for stability and away you go. Just to let you know Dan those cracked glass marbles you like come in a rainbow of different colors. :) Zac

Hmm …

I see more potential uses for those pretty shiny balls:

Would you be able to mount a LED or rice light under the marble to give it a glow?
