I know that their have been number of wonderful scratch built gunboat s shown on these pages. I got the bug recently to build one for some upcoming games set in darkest Africa. Would you lads and lasses be so kind as to show off what you have done against or direct me to such please?

I didn't use them for gunboats, but banana split containers are cheap and might be a good base for your project …

Thanks gents, as yes the Major General's site. Hmmm…the banana split containers are a good find.

I scratch built five gunboats using Evergreen and Plastruct plastic for my 15mm Sudan collection. You can see them in pics 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, and 19 of my Sudan Gallery at warin15mm.com/The-Sudan.html

Probably not quite the right type of gunboats, but hopefully something useful might be found here:

Hulls are the most basic, and difficult, part of a model to design/build, or just come across. But when you've got the one(s) you want, the next trick is arming and fitting out.

If you wish to see examples (albeit in all sizes) please follow this link to see the African/Nile/Other Gunboats and more by Richard Houston.

If you're looking to build for 25/28mm figures, please take a look at Reviresco, but may I especially suggest a visit to this link for the best priced items specifically designed for Gunboat modeling.

Yep IrishSerb's site was of the ones that I was looking for as was the Virtual Armchair General's site. War In 15mm, the Sudan stuff was simply beautiful. Great job painting all those figures.

I'm thinking you can get by with 'pointed shoe' shaped pieces of stacked foamcore, with simple cardstock on sides. Most of those gun boats have little rake.

Fly-class had so little freeboard, it's wonder a ripple wouldn't swamp 'em.

Few simple foamcore boxes on top, and Robert's a parental sibling.

Damn, shiny!

Loveliness I'd never attain. I suppose I could buy the last two, tell someone they can keep one if they assemble and paint both, and give me choice…
