> Fett is overrated. You can not truly appreciate Fett till you see him in the holiday special. |
thosmoss | 08 Jan 2014 8:41 a.m. PST |
Overrated? He scored in "Empire" -- Darth was walking around slaughtering the Imperium's high command left and right, and Fett was the only soul in the universe that didn't cower. Heck, he even stared up into that black gas mask and implied "you don't wanna mess with me", just a little. One nod, one line of dialog, and he became legend. And then? THEN he got overrated. Once you enter the stage so beautifully, how do you follow it up? Not with life-sized cardboard cut-out selfies. Not with unneeded extra footage. Certainly not with a comic-relief fall into the maw of the Sarlac. I think Robot Chicken has done a better job emulating what works for Fett than Lucas ever managed. |

overrated? Fett fits into the same category that Wedge and Han do for me. There are only a few people in the entire universe that can go toe to toe with jedi and hold their own. Not to mention that he tossed a thermal detonator deeper into the sarlacc, killed it, and then crawled out. He just doesn't get much screen time or books. I for one will enjoy the movie because Star Wars always seems to excel when it lives in the seedier parts of the universe. It's also a LOT better when no Jedi show up. Jedi cause to many problems. Suppressing emotions has to be the worst troupe. When Han pulls off an impossible move it's entertaining. When a jedi does it it's just "the Force" |

Ill go with Thosmoss on this. If he had only Empire to his credit, he would have been a powerful force. Return made him look like an idiot. |

Not to mention that he tossed a thermal detonator deeper into the sarlacc, killed it, and then crawled out. Comic book retcons don't count. Only the films matter. And the Sarlac burped. Boba Fett died a stupid death, courtesy of George Lucas, and Fett fans need to just admit it. |

Fett would fare a lot better in the historical documents had they not all been written by notorious "Republic" sympathizers. |
richarDISNEY | 08 Jan 2014 10:28 a.m. PST |
Good one John! I agree Parzival. But if you want to throw in the EU
Really? He SINGLE HANDEDLY steals a Star Destroyer? On the up side, the film may have been written by Kasdan, so that's a good thing!

Heck, Arvel sank a Star Destroyer with one little A-Wing. I'm sure one bounty hunter could steal one ^,^ |

You'd be badass too if you had to grow up with a name like Boba! |

The sarlacc escape isnt a comic book. It's in his trilogy of books. he escapes and is nursed to health by a dancing girl that convinces him to do something for her and he has some adventures with Bossk and Dengar among others. If we really want to go deep then he saves the day a few times as the leader of the mandalorians during the vong war. He gets tumors from the cloning process and runs around with his granddaughter trying to fix himself by finding the only other surviving clone. All of this doesn't matter because the reason for the sand alone movie is the fact that he is iconic and well loved. He is also a force of nature and the blueprint for bounty hunters. He needs a good movie so that it will redeem the character in light of Cad Bane being
technically cooler but only due to more screen time and a lack of he who wears turtlenecks interference. |

I read that Fett survived the Sarlac in official universe books about twenty years ago. If it takes you a thousand years to get digested inside the sarlac, then for an anti-Hero like Fett it would only take him a few minutes to get out. His armour would give him some protection against the Sarlacian stomach acids for starters. |

I'm betting that the opening scene for Star Wars Episode VII will be on Tatooine, showing the escape of Boba Fett from the Sarlac pit. Now, wouldn't that be cool? |

I'm betting that the opening scene for Star Wars Episode VII will be on Tatooine, showing the escape of Boba Fett from the Sarlac pit. Now, wouldn't that be cool? Yes, and exactly what is needed to make it canon
well, assuming the rest of the film is at least as good as SW and TESB. (I only grudgingly accept RotJ as canon, only because it closes out the story and has the awesome Executor and A-Wings, B-Wings and TIE Ints in it. Otherwise, it's crap.) The sarlacc escape isnt a comic book. It's in his trilogy of books. Books, schmooks. If that's canon, then Splinter of the Mind's Eye is canon (eeewww), and the Brian Daley Han Solo Adventures (actually, I'd love for those to be canon— they're fun). But nope, gotta be on the big screen or it's just handwaving back-splanation to cover up whatever Lucas screwed up. "Lucasy— you got some 'splainin' to do!" |

No--you cannot appreciate Fett until you have seen him in the original KLINGON. Agree that he was overrated (compared to accomplishments on=screen, anyway), but the books do give him more worthy stuff. Hey, the Han Solo books aren't canon? What? Rob |
Parzival | 08 Jan 2014 6:16 p.m. PST |
Don't cry Parzival. Tosh. A tweet declaring stuff canon doesn't make it canon. It's the medium in this case, not the message. Slap it on the big screen or it's just Jedi mind tricks. But let's face it. For fans, what is "canon" is more often than not what they like, and what isn't canon is what they dislike. My personal "canon" begins with Star Wars and ends with The Empire Strikes Back. The rest is a huge mess of apocrypha, most of it bad. I'll bet more long time fans agree with me than disagree, too. Not that I would mind if some of those apocryphal spaceships show up as X-wing miniatures, mind you! |

"
after a beat, the gloved Mandalorean armor of Boba Fett grabs onto the sand of the Sarlac pit
" Where have I heard that before? It's a bit long at 8+min but all improvised and worth it

Fett was cool because he was mysterious. The reverse is also true, so a movie of his own will not do him any good. |
