Here's hoping we see Grand Admiral Thrawn on the big screen!

Here's hoping. Glad to see that the good parts of the EU aren't being thrown out by the Black Rat- I wouldn't mind seeing the Rogues and/or Wraiths making an appearance in the new movies.
Of course, there's still the idiocy that is the New Jedi Order (I considered the loss of Jedi to be a plus for the universe), the Yuzhan Vong, numerous repetitive story elements, and the like.

A shame the prequels haven't been declared apocryphal…

I just read the article and I have no idea what impact this has on anything going forward.

Basically means people who are fans of the novels and other EU material won't be given the finger when new movies or material arrive. I think this is a good thing, since a lot of the really silly stuff has been mostly ignored in the more recent novels, or if it is not, given a different focus (like Luke falling to the Dark Side), and this acknowledges the long-term hardcore fanbase, and the casual fans won't be bothered to care anyway.

So, if they (whoever they are) hadn't done this then the next movie(s) wouldn't have acknowledged the novels in writing the screenplays and may have contradicted things that occurred in the novels. Now, with this statement, the new movie(s) will take into account all that's in the novels? Right…

Or at least not directly contradict what happened in the EU. Besides, the most recent novel series felt like a set-up for the new movies, and if they use it that way, should fulfil many a Star Wars fan's wishes (i.e with the Lost Tribe of the Sith, you have the opportunity for armies of Jedi vs Sith action…!)

I just want to see a rouge squadron TV show or set of movies. Thrawn is tricky. I'm not sure they are ready for a recast right now. There is a great book with Mara Jade as the emperors hand. I think she is working with the 501st guys. The problem is that if they pick up were the books are leaving off for the movies then she is already out of the picture. So to movie only people she is just a random dancing girl in Jedi. Not a super assassin that tries to kill Luke and ends up marrying him in a jacked up love story.

Great, fanboys will determine the canon.
Fanboys don't ever, ever, ever make good decisions for the franchises they love.

That's how Fett got into the first set of movies, and why ST:Nemesis was made. (shudder).

The odds of this going well are 3,720 to 1.

The "Council of Nerdcea" perhaps?
