I've gone through the requested hoops TMP link "NSFW miniatures" seems to be an acceptable choice but alas the Editor and the editors don't seen to give a rats |

NSFW always strikes me as silly
I mean, you're at work, you're not supposed to be looking at gaming sites anyway. How do you justify demanding safe content for your illicit activities? 'Boobies' is a silly, juvenile word
and seems fit for the concept that pictures of naked people must somehow be locked away from the eyes of the innocent. |

I think its way unworthy of your time to worry about such a thing. Is it so hard just to pass it by? I wish just thinking about how much fun being PC isn't. It seems every joke or attempt at humor offends someone now

NSFW yes another nebulous set of letter concocted by the internet saavy to make us old men feel out of touch. I looked it up, it means "Not Safe For Work" |

The only argument against the 'boobies' moniker that I'm sympathetic to is that it is somewhat sexist. That to be fair we should also have a forum titled 'Needs More Wieners'. Maybe roll them together and call it 'Trunk of Junk'
or maybe just 'Nudists Camp' (Vollyball Vacation for the shy folks). |

One of those was more than enough, thank you. Fortunately, NYC dodged a bullet on that one, but may have stepped into the path of another

Meh -- we know what's in it, so what's the hubbub about the name of it? |
Jakse375 | 01 Dec 2013 7:25 p.m. PST |
The board was suggested, put to a poll and won. Therefore it is now a board. To change the board, start a poll, get the votes and have it changed, otherwise get a helmet. |
John the OFM | 01 Dec 2013 8:21 p.m. PST |
And the Poll was greeted with giggles and tee-hees. We all greeted it like Beavis and Butthead. "Heh heh. Ne said 'boobies'!" Let's face it, it's a stupid Board with a stupid name. And half the miniatures starring on it are not really that well done either. It's the name that is the most immature facet of it. |
Skeets | 01 Dec 2013 8:48 p.m. PST |
Political Correctness rears it ugly head again. If the name bothers you don't go onto the site. |
Pictors Studio | 01 Dec 2013 9:22 p.m. PST |
But this board isn't just about NSFW miniatures, besides the fact that all of the miniatures on it are safe for where I work, it is about boobies. Go look at the top 12 threads. Except for this thread and another started by the OP they are all miniatures of chicks. The name is not only not in poor taste but is very apt. Well, actually given how well endowed most of the figures were, it might be better named "Doesn't need more boobies." |

Inari7 | 01 Dec 2013 10:05 p.m. PST |
Bill told the membership when this board was created that if no one used it he would delete it. It looks like it averages about one thread a day. I don't think it's gonna change anytime soon. If this is the most immature thing on this site, then I am OK with it but we all know this BOARD is not the most immature think on this site :) |
StarfuryXL5 | 01 Dec 2013 10:18 p.m. PST |
Call it the "Wink, Wink, Nudge, Nudge Board." Know what I mean? |
Mako11 | 02 Dec 2013 12:20 a.m. PST |
If you really must change it, how about "Naked Sculptures" in order to add a bit of class, and to make it a bit more gender neutral, which may help appease those grinding their PC axes to the point of dulling them again. People in supposedly more conservative medieval and renaissance periods seem to have been a lot less up tight than their much more modern cousins about human anatomy. I would also note that their paintings, and sculptures were a lot more, "in your face", due to their much larger size than the ones we typically work with, and paint. |
monash1916 | 02 Dec 2013 12:44 a.m. PST |
NSFW??? Anything which is not Work Related should be NSFW during worktime. Talking about immature behaviour
. Besides, a lot of other boards are about miniature soldiers and wars with all its horror and bloodshed. "yeah, but those are only toys, the are not real, we are only gaming with them
.. etc. etc" Well those naked mini's are not real either. And yes, boobies is a kind of an immature word, but I like it to be honest. So my advice, be mature at your work. Be immature in your spare time and have fun. And even more important be sensible and reasonable all your life. There are more important things than just the name of a message board. And it is easily to skip anyway. |
Malibu Max | 02 Dec 2013 3:40 a.m. PST |
"I've gone through the requested hoops TMP link "NSFW miniatures" seems to be an acceptable choice but alas the Editor and the editors don't seen to give a rats!" Seriously – does the OP have nothing more important in his life to worry about? Either his life is so perfect that he feels the need to worry about such trivial issues, or else he desperately needs to get a sense of proportion. Worry about your family and friends, the world your children will grow up in or something that actually matters. Toys with t*i*t*s are not really important are they? And if you don't like it don't look at them
it's that simple. I used to wonder why the WW2 generation despaired of the youth of today. I'm starting to understand now

heyyyy Max the OP is female and kindly requests you read the actual thread linked to. KatieL's post, in particular, is excellent. |
alizardincrimson2 | 02 Dec 2013 4:38 a.m. PST |
we don't have to rehash the entire conversation READ THE THREAD LINKED TO IN THE FIRST POST |
cpt shandy | 02 Dec 2013 5:31 a.m. PST |
I read the discussion referred to in the first post and agree with the OP, KatieL and some others. Wargaming should be a hobby that welcomes diversity and not offend some players. And before anyone cries 'PC!', I also agree with John the OFM's statement on the other discussion. Nowadays, conservatives seem to indulge in being anti-PC, while when I was young, they were the ones fighting for decency. I also think that 'Zardoz' would be a great name for the board. |
XRaysVision | 02 Dec 2013 7:47 a.m. PST |
Aren't boobies a type of seabird? |
Pictors Studio | 02 Dec 2013 11:15 a.m. PST |
"Wargaming should be a hobby that welcomes diversity and not offend some players." Should we avoid violence and guns in games then because that offends a lot of people? |
Phillius | 02 Dec 2013 11:29 a.m. PST |
As XRay points out, Boobies are a type of bird. They are also a type of mistake. It's over to the individual how they interpret the name of this board. |

Feet up now | 02 Dec 2013 1:53 p.m. PST |
This board should remain as part of the karma around here to maintain the balance . There are far too many dicks around (meself included) The boobies must remain if not for balance then for conservation. |
Pictors Studio | 02 Dec 2013 2:10 p.m. PST |
"apples and oranges Pictors" Nope, same thing. |
zippyfusenet | 02 Dec 2013 4:14 p.m. PST |
Liz, you tried. You convinced a few of us, but you're clearly not winning over this crowd. Not now, not ever. My advice would be for you to find something more satisfying to do. Unless you *like* the ringing in your ears, in which case, continue to beat your head against this wall. The wall doesn't mind, the more frustrated you get, the more it enjoys the contest. Teasing girls is a kind of fun that some of us don't often get. |
monash1916 | 03 Dec 2013 1:00 a.m. PST |
"apples and oranges Pictors" Nope, same thing.
For some reasons I rather had "Melons" in the equation instead of apples or oranges But I totally agree with Pictors, it is really, totally, utterly the same thing. |
cpt shandy | 03 Dec 2013 3:54 a.m. PST |
No, it's not the same thing. People who are offended by violence and guns won't play wargames at all because of it. Sexist talk offends people who do play wargames. But I guess arguing is futile, the commenters who don't get the difference don't want to get it. That's why I'll be leaving this thread (and, in the long run, TMP – there are other forums out there where people know how to behave in a decent way while still having lots of fun). |
brunet | 03 Dec 2013 4:54 a.m. PST |
just get rid of this board. |
monash1916 | 03 Dec 2013 6:44 a.m. PST |
Sexist talk offends people who do play wargames. I would agree on that if people here were addressed personally or as a group on their appearance, sexual orientation or sexual function. But I fortunately have not seen that happen here on this board. I do not see any sexism in these tiny miniatures at all. But hey, since we are living in the Age of Outrage, you see throughout the whole society that borders of certain subjects are narrowed down, so some people can say they are offended. Subsequently they can start complaining and yelling about it and trying to change it, probably only to boost their feeling of selfimportance and selfesteem. In my view just silly behaviour. just get rid of this board. Well, if you do not like it, just don't look at it. |
Pictors Studio | 03 Dec 2013 7:32 a.m. PST |
"People who are offended by violence and guns won't play wargames at all because of it. " But this isn't the Wargames Page, it is the Miniatures Page. There are lots of figures here that have nothing to do with War. You could even play games with them. You could get through an entire game of Call of Cthulhu without guns. You could certainly play sports related miniature games without violence. The point is that taking offense to something and then vocalizing it is an exercise in trying to change the behaviour of others because of a deficiency in yourself. I've always viewed the people who want all violence removed from their kids lives as people who shirk their responsibility to parent. Violence is present in the world and it always will be. It is a part of our nature that we cannot escape. While most of us might not engage in violence in our lifetime it is almost impossible that we will not see a violent act. Similarly if you are offended by the term boobies it is possibly because you have some sort of juvenile view of sexuality. Instead of confronting this issue in yourself, you claim offense and want to rid others of whatever pleasure it is they get out of it, in this case humor. Instead of getting rid of this board the people offended should try to see the funny side of it. Humor, some would argue, is one of many defense mechanisms. According to them it is a higher order one. It is worth developing. |
ancientsgamer | 03 Dec 2013 8:10 a.m. PST |
You think you are offended now, just wait till they change it to the Sexy Figures Board or something like that. We are liable to get a huge swarm of Zardoz themed male figures next! Oh, the humanity! ;-) (see, it really can get worse) PS. By the way, is it sexist to post such figures or does the sexism exist with those that produced the figure to begin with? Political correctness is a form of censorship. We don't have to like something and can be offended by it, it doesn't mean that everyone gets to be the individual arbitrator of what gets said or shown. The worst we see are some naked breasts. If you have a problem with this, then I submit that the vulgarity exists in your mind only. It isn't the body parts that are the problem, it is the machinations in individual's minds when observing said body parts. I haven't seen suggestive poses or those of a sexual nature in these posts (I probably have missed a few though :-) Trust me, there are plenty of figures on the Internet that would make most people blush and many take offense. If the Susan G. Komen group can have a slogan "Save the Ta-tas", why can't be have a board that says "Needs More Boobies"? Seriously, you are offended by that? You have too much time on your hands
By the way, I could care less what it is called. And while I agree with John (again!), there are some actual quality figures posted there as well. I don't own any but I do appreciate artistry. I save my lustful thoughts for real women in the world, not scantily clad miniatures! LOL |
alizardincrimson2 | 03 Dec 2013 9:25 a.m. PST |
*groan* look I'm all for naked minis male, female, more male would be nice come to think of it, other, all of the above I'm not calling to close the board I happen to like the board is it too much to ask for a name that isn't so juvenile? |
alizardincrimson2 | 03 Dec 2013 9:35 a.m. PST |
oooOOOOOooooo I just got told that it IS too much to ask and, to paraphrase, "gurls shouldn't be allowed to game anyway" (btw, please misplace my email addy, you jerk) BITE ME oh dear was that in all caps? |
