please, oh please? to something that doesn't make 10 year old boys snicker? something that doesn't cause female gamers to feel unwelcome? to something that doesn't inspire or reinforce the objectification of women that's rampant in the gaming world? (yes, you can have naked lady minis without that happening) and, no, "the ladies room" is not a good idea (see first comment) ideas? |
brunet | 29 Sep 2013 2:31 a.m. PST |
yes, I agree. Not only changing it's name but get rid of it totally |

brunet I'm mixed on getting rid of it. On one hand
I paint primarily female minis and it's been a good resource for that. on the other hand
. the name of the board seems to give people permission to be pretty foul Dave could work |

Just think, when it started there were a whole series of posts on various types of Albatross – yes, really. So it has been hijacked, perhaps that was the original intention? An alternate name might be NSFW miniatures? Anyhow, most of the notionally 'male' beefcake/Conan mini's should probably also be wearing a bra – anyone, male or female with that much upper chest overhang would probably be found lying face down on the pavement saying 'Help Meeee' |
Silent Pool | 29 Sep 2013 3:03 a.m. PST |
Actually, there is no charm in the board name Needs more boobies – get rid of it. Let us all raise our game. How about Fantasy Figures? or, Human Fantasy Figures. And The Editor/Editor Julia can edit out any snigger (snicker?) factor. |
Redlancer38 | 29 Sep 2013 3:06 a.m. PST |

NSFW Minis would give me a place to post naked males too oh! AND that hermaphrodite mini I've had no where to post. so far my 2 favs are 1) just get rid of it 2) NSFW miniatures |

how about no "boobies" in the name? |
Texas Jack | 29 Sep 2013 6:24 a.m. PST |
I agree, I like Bodacious Ta-Tas But seriously folks, we are grown-ups playing with toy soldiers, Needs More Boobies is fine with me if it stays. |

Coelacanth | 29 Sep 2013 6:35 a.m. PST |
The existing board describes itself so: For discussion of the anatomy of miniature figures. I suggest we call it Nice Figure! I don't think that NSFW should appear in the board title, but each poster should append it to the topic line if he or she deems it necessary. Ron |
WarWizard | 29 Sep 2013 6:39 a.m. PST |
I would like the see the named changed also. |
Fish | 29 Sep 2013 6:51 a.m. PST |
I see little reason in changing the name. Haven't noticed any problems being reported earlier so I kinda doubt the actual problem exists. Besides 10 year old boys will always keep on snickering. |
Joes Shop | 29 Sep 2013 7:06 a.m. PST |
I can see a female member having a problem with the board name. A neutral name is a good idea. Regards, J. P. Kelly |

|
20thmaine | 29 Sep 2013 7:21 a.m. PST |
I agree with the OP, I'd go further and just get rid of it. Why on earth do we need a board to discuss figures with anatomically ridiculous breasts ? And no I don't think an equivalent "needs more penis" would even things out with the ladies. |
skippy0001 | 29 Sep 2013 7:44 a.m. PST |
How about 'Too Old For This'? |
John the OFM | 29 Sep 2013 7:56 a.m. PST |
A gentleman is one who does not deliberately give offense. Then there are those baboons who pound their chest and bellow "I am not politically correct!" like that is license to give offense. The sad thing is that is the baboons who make the most noise, and will see dropping NMB or changing its name as PC. Screw 'em. The name of the Board reminds me of the caricature of "connoisseurs of Erotica". Comic buffoonish dirty old men. Why on earth do we need a board to discuss figures with anatomically ridiculous breasts ? Frankly, most of the "art" featured on that Board are really bad sculpts and sloppy paint jobs. I would rather do without it, but failing that, I have no suggestion for a name change, though "NSFW" seems to be adequate. And I do not think a Poll is necessary, just an editorial decision. |
Coelacanth | 29 Sep 2013 8:06 a.m. PST |
And I do not think a Poll is necessary, just an editorial decision. There are few better examples of a situation where editorial judgement should trump popular opinion. Ron |
Cerdic | 29 Sep 2013 8:26 a.m. PST |
I would vote for getting rid of it. If it has to stay then change the name to something less juvenile and mealy-mouthed. How about "a ton of !" Actually the suggestion of "Page Three" was a good one! |
Cerdic | 29 Sep 2013 8:28 a.m. PST |
It bleeped ! How are we to discuss a certain species of small garden birds then? Should the need arise

Really? Why all this political correctness. Its ridiculous. It's just a silly name meant to be humorous. Why should someone feels uncomfortable just because they can't see the humor in it. Has anyone actually complained about it. Or is this someone assumption at being PC. |
alizardincrimson2 | 29 Sep 2013 9:28 a.m. PST |
papaSync ooooh, I've complained about it and I've been in contact with others who have been made uncomfortable as well. I generally use the "complain" button thing because complaining openly leads to copious amounts of hate and condescension. |
RavenscraftCybernetics | 29 Sep 2013 9:39 a.m. PST |
To b e truthful, the name should be changed to "Doesn't need more boobies" if it really offends you, you could simply turn it off. |
John the OFM | 29 Sep 2013 9:43 a.m. PST |
Really? Why all this political correctness. Once again, code for "I should be as offensive as I want to, and you can't stop me! It's just a silly name meant to be humorous. To you. Why should someone feels uncomfortable just because they can't see the humor in it. Are you now telling people what they have a right to be uncomfortable about? Has anyone actually complained about it. Obviously they have. After all, we DO have this topic! |
CraigH | 29 Sep 2013 9:45 a.m. PST |
Page Three kind of works – although non-UK readers may not get it. |
Rrobbyrobot | 29 Sep 2013 10:00 a.m. PST |
I'm for leaving things as they are. One does have the option of ignoring that which offends. There is no right not to be offended. |
Coelacanth | 29 Sep 2013 10:04 a.m. PST |
There is no right not to be offended. Maybe so, but there exists an Obligation not to give offense. Please, let us carry ourselves well. Ron |
Martin Rapier | 29 Sep 2013 10:13 a.m. PST |
What John the OFM and all the other sensible people have said. Most of us aren't snickering 10 years and do have a sense of social responsibility rather than seeking to be offended. |
CorpCommander | 29 Sep 2013 10:27 a.m. PST |
I am not sure you should. It's fair advertising for the misogyny in the hobby. It might be nice to discuss the issue and change a few attitudes, but getting rid of that one board won't do a thing for a common attitude seen in the entire spectrum of gaming. I also see it in my field of software engineering so don't feel singled out. It's symbolic of where our society needs to mature a bit more. |
20thmaine | 29 Sep 2013 10:28 a.m. PST |
If it has to stay then NSFW – although that seems prissy for a bunch of miniatures. It would then be the home for semi-naked lady miniatures & all those hung like a donkey male figures. Which don't exist, do they ? |
Gokiburi | 29 Sep 2013 10:55 a.m. PST |
Another vote for NSFW, it's not perfect, but it gets the point across with little possibility of being offensive (Nudes might work as well). Although a bunch of other (mostly juvenile) names come to mind: Nipples n' knobs Thanks for the mammeries Mommy and Daddy parts Unmentionables (this one almost works) People ogling pewter Chainmail bikinis and leather loincloths bosoms and thews (heaving and manly of course) Vortex 4 |
Augie the Doggie | 29 Sep 2013 11:32 a.m. PST |
I'm not offended, but I just think that it is stupid and infantile. To be fair, shouldn't there also be a Needs A Bigger Johnson board? |
ancientsgamer | 29 Sep 2013 11:37 a.m. PST |
Let's see, grown men playing with toy soldiers and we are complaining about needs more boobies
Hard sell man! LOL |
FuriousGamer | 29 Sep 2013 11:50 a.m. PST |
Do not change the name. Here are a few reasons: 1. No matter how much we try to avoid it, we play with little toy soldiers and the like. We are immature. Let's not lose that youthful lack of consideration on TMP. I don't wanna grow up! 2. The very nature of our hobby is offensive to most. Who cares if we offend someone else? Going to a miniatures/wargaming page (TMP) is like taking a child to a pro football game in the states – they will see and hear things completely inappropriate. But if that wasn't the case, it would suck, just like everthing else does now. Don't make this place suck too. 3. Don't see an adaquate monetary incentive to this change. Money talks, infantry walks
4. Let's not have our wives, etc., hanging around anymore than they have to
. 5.It's not like any of you losers are going to meet any girls on here anyway. |

"but getting rid of that one board won't do a thing for a common attitude seen in the entire spectrum of gaming." That's the argument used for every single point of inertia which leads to it being a common attitude -- not just in gaming but across the world. "Let's not have our wives, etc., hanging around anymore than they have to
." Some of us are not your wives. Some of us ARE gamers. "Why should someone feels uncomfortable just because they can't see the humor in it." I know a song that'll get on your nerves, get on your nerves, get on your nerves. I know a song that'll get on your nerves, get on your nerves, get on your nerves.
