"It's not like any of you losers are going to meet any girls on here anyway." Not looking, I'm quite happy with my wife and glad she doesn't read TMP regularly. Needs More Boobies would tick her off. I do think we might make a slight effort not to be offensive to the few women members of the hobby. Or we can throw our bottle out of the crib. |
FuriousGamer | 29 Sep 2013 12:20 p.m. PST |
KatieL: I know that most on here are not 'your' wives, and ARE gamers, that is why I said it. I was speaking to the majority of MALE losers on here. As a FEMALE gamer, that makes you an even bigger loser than the rest of us. Oh, and please do not post multiple, repeat phrases over and over again in the future. Your post contains 18 useless lines of text. That should actually be banned. |

Oy vey. I'm solidly with John the OFM on this one. |
CraigH | 29 Sep 2013 12:32 p.m. PST |
How about Blatant Money Grabs which is really what most of the figures posted on the board are meant to do. Or maybe a name along the lines of 'figures for collectors' which would also give a home to some of the 54mm, 90mm, etc figures posted that aren't really meant for gaming. But yeah, even though the expression "needs more boobies" has a long but not proud history here at TMP, I think it's time to change. |

Looking at who starts all the threads in NMB, I say we kill 2 birds with 1 stone and re-title the board "Tango's board". And he has to post there. FuriousGamer wrote:

Yeah, well, if posts with 18 useless lines of text were banned, there'd be an awful lot fewer postings. This one, for a start (if you count blank lines). All the best,
John. |

What if it is renamed simply "The female form" and leave it at that? And for the record wargaming does not make you immature, it is how you act and comport yourself that defines immaturity. |

Some of the posts on NMB have poor sculpts with iffy paint jobs. Some are very nice. Skin is fairly hard to get right, so having some example is nice. If there is a strong undercurrent of objection to the name, then I am happy with NSFW |

I support keeping the board, not because of the name, or what is posted there, but as a reminder of why we got the board in the first place. Surely people remember _why_ we got that particular board? Cheers, JohnG |

As to the question of offense, one cannot "give" offense. One can take offense. One can take offense at anything. I can be offended by the discussion of modern wargaming, for example. Some don't like Vietnam wargaming. That does not mean that modern wargaming or Vietnam wargaming are offensive inherently. Nothing is offensive inherently. Someone has to find it offensive to be offended. Even if someone is trying to offend you it cannot work if you do not take offense. Perhaps we should work on trying to become more balanced people who do not take things on an electronic message board so seriously that they get offended by it. |
Phil Hall | 29 Sep 2013 2:46 p.m. PST |
Exactly what purpose do naked women serve in wargaming? I understand if they are Fantasy Amazons but I'm not sure what purpose is served by naked or half naked women in our games? |
vtsaogames | 29 Sep 2013 2:51 p.m. PST |
"one cannot "give" offense" I beg to differ. There are people who specialize in offensive posts. There are others who do it inadvertently. I think we should try to recruit new people to this hobby, including women. A small effort to avoid offending them could be well worth it. |

I think that the person who came up with the idea for the "Needs More Boobies" board should be:Keel Hauled, Shot, Stabbed, Burned at the Stake, Drawn and Quartered. I think that covers being killed in all periods. |
Tin hat | 29 Sep 2013 3:24 p.m. PST |
If you want to make it more discrete you could always ask Mr Tango to stop posting on there everyday and let it naturally fade to obscurity. |
Pictors Studio | 29 Sep 2013 3:27 p.m. PST |
"I beg to differ. There are people who specialize in offensive posts. There are others who do it inadvertently." But you would be wrong there. I don't think I've ever found a post on this website offensive at all. I think I've found people I disagree with strongly about things. I don't ever remember being offended. Possibly I haven't come across these people of whom you speak. In 12+ years on here I doubt it, though. If I haven't been offended then there is nothing in the nature of the posts that is inherently offended. Therefore people who are offended must be the ones who are taking offense as the posts themselves are not offensive. |

The board is a tribute to the running joke at the time. It was also voted by the TMP community as a board. I think the board serves a purpose on TMP. In the distant past you could click on a fantasy thread and there could pop-up a NSFW picture. Now with the inclusion of the board, you know that the discussions ARE NSFW. I think has an important role here on TMP, even after the running joke has died. I would keep the name, as a tribute, but add NSFW at the end of the title. "Needs more boobies NSFW" |

"Once again, code for "I should be as offensive as I want to, and you can't stop me!" Please don't try to interpret what others are trying to say. You're not very good at it. Nothing is farther than the truth. But once again you have those who are constantly looking at others humor and are the first ones to resort to name calling. Such as calling them "infantile' and "childish". "A gentleman is one who does not deliberately give offense. Then there are those baboons". Not deliberately but then does it in the next sentence. There are those who are just a little too holier than thou for me. "Are you now telling people what they have a right to be uncomfortable about?" No I am not. Not anymore than you can tell others that they are "baboons" just because their humor doesn't meet yours. As robbyrobot said – "One does have the option of ignoring that which offends." and coelacanth said – "Maybe so, but there exists an Obligation not to give offense." As far as I'm concern they are both right. My question is "Just how far do we go to Not give offense". And whose ruler do we use to measure it. But in the end it's up to the editor and I appreciate his patience in allowing us to discuss it openly.. |

Mr Tin Hat is right. In one of the threads I posted from the beginning of the board, Ed stated he would "see how much it is used", to decide if he was going to drop it. When it started in Sept 2011, it was used 11 times through to Jan 2012. Then Armand started posting to it and it has rarely been off the front page since. It isn't all Armand I admit. One of the problems with TMP is that the ability to block boards is quite crude. Because it is a "General" board, if you block General so you don't see this board, you end up losing lots of others. I suspect there is some irony that the "joke" boards of NMB and Utter Drivel are probably used far more than some more obscure legitimate ones Ed, is there a way of generating usage stats for all the boards and letting them be available to members? Thanks, JohnG |

"If I haven't been offended then there is nothing in the nature of the posts that is inherently offended." Or you have a higher tolerance than other folks. I recall BME who seemed to work at being offensive, as did a neo-Nazi fellow whose tag I forget. They both made themselves enough of a pain to get banned from here. True that nothing on NMB is at that level, but let's give the women a break. |

"True that nothing on NMB is at that level, but let's give the women a break." A break from what? I don't believe that all women are offended by that board. BME never said anything that offended me. He was a clown. He was trying to be a clown and if I remember correctly a lot of people got themselves all worked up over his clownishness. Had people ignored him, he would probably have just gone away on his own. "Or you have a higher tolerance than other folks." This is an interesting point. Why do I have a higher tolerance? If I have a higher tolerance does that make me better than other people at this? If it does then should we not work on increasing the tolerance of others rather than censoring something? |

As gamers and gentlemen, we need to encourage anyone who is interested in our hobby to feel comfortable and accepted. The title of this board does not do this. Most people have heard the parable of "The Emperors New Clothes." That is a name I suggest. Or "Exposed Lead" Or "Au Natural" JMHO |

I don't have a problem with the contents of the board (if you are happy explaining to your wife why you are looking at lead ladies with pneumatic hooters then it is not my problem), however I do think that the name of it is simply inaccurate. How about we rename it " Fantasies of Old Men" and get to the crux of the matter. |

"Oh, and please do not post multiple, repeat phrases over and over again in the future." Way to go missing my point. Yeah, repetition gets annoying doesn't it. So do the sexist comments. The difference being that you all only make the jokes once, it's just a little bit of fun, right? But there's A LOT OF YOU. |

1) Wargamers are mostly man. Collectors of plastic or metal miniatures are mostly man. Man are often enjoying the look of (often exagerated) woman. That is why miniature producers make miniatures of naked woman. How do we handle these facts. Do we become serious and non-offensive by ignoring who we are? 2) Where is the limit? I know many people, who think playing war is offensive. I know some wargamers, who find playing modern wars (SS, swasticas, Vietnam, Afghan) is offensive. I know a wargaming convention, where nothing after 1900 is allowed. Is a half naked fantasy amazon really more offensive than a model of Jochen Peiper, under whose command 83 american prisoners were murdered? |

The OP did not ask for the Boobies board to be abolished. She asked for a name change. I'm for it. Go ahead and look at your nudie magazines, or lead figures or whatever. Me too. Just, if you're going to display it at the supermarket checkout, put a neutral lid over the magazine cover. Otherwise, prepare to be endlessly annoyed by by small children asking, "Daddy! Why is that lady swingin' such a big battle-axe and she's um got no clo'se on snigger snigger?" and by prudes calling you a perv. I've just been struck by inspiration for a miniatures game. "Clean Up The Tenderloin": Prudes (and Cops) vs. Pervs (and Providers). How many hookers and johns can you bust in one shift? How many tricks can you turn without taking a ride downtown? Can you preach a junkie 'ho into cleaning up and leaving the street? Can you corrupt a prominent pillar of virtue into dirty sex in an alley for the hidden camera? What a fantastic line of miniatures that would be. |
