Curious – some of these sets seem to still be readily available i.e. French Line Artillery (esp on Ebay), while others i.e French Hussars / Dragoons, Scots Greys are almost impossible to find. Does the manufacturer stop producing certain sets due to lack of sales/interest?

Just wonderin…

I am wondering the same thing, only about HaT 1805 Russian line infantry. It was once an easy thing to pick up, but now it doesnīt seem to exist. I even tried to buy directly from HaT only to find they are out of stock as well.
My guess would be they do a run of x amount, and then donīt do another run until higher priority projects are completed. Itīs just a guess, if anyone knows for sure I would love to know!

I think Italeri have stopped making 1 32nd altogether, what you are seeing on eBay is the residual, less popular stock – great shame…

@Texas Jack – I'm trying to track down the Hat Zulus – very scarce it seems as well
@Green Tiger – that could well be the case. Their 1/32 models are quite nice imo, I'll keep scouring the net ;)

Sevastopol, try asking Mike Blake on his post TMP link as he's in the know about 54mm plastics!

Sevastopol07 Sep 2013 2:51 p.m. PST

Thanks Marslatour – I'll do that.

@Sevastopol- you could try contacting HaT directly, their email address is somewhere on their website. In my case they were out of stock, but at least they answered. Good luck!

The answer has been given. Makers do stop producing figures once the demand drops below a certain level. Hence the 2nd Rule of Wargaming – 'Buy it when you see it'. ;-)

Italeri have done just that – but Steve Weston (Weston Toy Soldiers plasticsoldiers.co.uk/) has been working on them to get the molds for some back into production (eg hussars and dragoons).

Tiger Hobbies (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Tiger-Hobbies-Limited for ebay shop) have the Supreme versions of the Italeri British Light Dragoons and also a completely new French cavalry figure in bicorne, tailcoat and riding boots at ridiculously cheap prices.

HaT are a law unto themselves. I'd try Texas Jack's suggestion. There is an outfit in the UK who sell them off cheap but I can't recall the name at the moment – about 1/3 full price but it is just what they find at the wholesalers. PM me what you are after – I have a lot of surplus figures.

That's interesting news Mike about Steve Weston and Italeri – do you have any further info on his progress?

Sevastopol09 Sep 2013 5:54 p.m. PST

Thanks for the info!

Sevastopol09 Sep 2013 6:00 p.m. PST

@Mike – can you send me your address – not sure how to PM someone on this site – I'm relatively new here :)

Thanks,

Peter

Apologies – only just checked this thread and saw the request for my email. I will 'disguise' it so it can't be 'botted. If it is still of interest to you Sevastepol, it is mike dot blakeuk @ btinternet dot com

Just noticed the reference to HaT Zulus – in 1/32nd? News to me – when did they come out?

I know of A Call To Arms sets (weedy) and Armies in Plastic (better) but had no idea HaT had gone Colonial!

Sevastopol09 Jan 2014 8:32 p.m. PST

No 1/32 zulus from HaT that I know of. I may have gotten 2 topics mixed together.

Steve Weston has succeeded in getting two OOP Italeri sets back in production by Waterloo 1815 of a limited production run of Napoleonic French General Staff £14.00 GBP and French Dragoons (4 mounted figures) £6.00 GBP, from the original moulds held in Italy.

Waterloo 1815 have secured permission for a small production run.

Austrian infantry and scots greys would have been good, but the dragoons may be useful

Botch B17 Oct 2015 7:46 a.m. PST

Scots Greys???? Why – there was only ever one unit of them, do it and you are done! And the Italeri ones are not amongst their best figures, too small for Heavy Dragoons. Still, they made good Japanese cavalry for the Boxer Uprising.

I think the Light Dragoons are far more useful, with plenty of conversion potential – and they are available in softer plastic from Tiger Hobbies and very cheaply too.

Marc the plastics fan17 Oct 2015 3:00 p.m. PST

Sorry. Scots Greys as with head swaps they are British heavy dragoons, and because they wear overalls they can form the basis of concersion to other cavalry – Austrian chevaily leger etc
So they are useful
