Tuesday nights are going to become family nights again in our house, which is great news, however we all get tired of playing Uno.
I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for some simple jousting rules, which we could play instead.
My children have played wargames before, but they like simple games which can be played in less than 1 hour.
Thoughts please…

Ian

I played a fun jousting game at Legends in the Fall 2011. I don't remember the name of it, but if you can find a listing from that convention, you might be able to find it.

The Two Hour Wargames Jousting game was being run at Campaign last weekend and looked to be going well enough …

(Campaign 13)

… and the Society of Ancients game pack Fields of Chivalry includes a jousting game (plus other combats, fold-up soldiers etc.) and is worth a look …

(scroll down the SoA Games Page)

A couple of options there … hope it helps …

My 12 picked up quickly the two hour wargames version at a convention and came in the top 5 out of 25 compeitors. It is a quick easy game to learn and play on a family night.

There's a simple set of jousting rules in the old Chainmail rulebook, if you can find a copy of it.

SPI's old game Great Medieval Battles was a quadri-game. One battle was Stonehenge, featuring King Arthur. There was a simple man-to-man combat system. Each player started out mounted with a lance. Each player picked one offensive (sword) chit and one defensive (shield) chit. You could cover or attack the helm, right, left or if an un-chivalrous sort, attack the enemy's horse (if mounted) or legs.

Chivalrous fighters tended to have stronger combat factors but also let their opponents get back on their horses, would strike low blows, etc. It was fast and simple.

The other three battles in the series were fun too.

"Cry a Joust" , "rock, paper, scissors", on horseback, in armor, with a lance, with a luck variable. Sounds fun enough for a bit of a game session. I'll have to try that out. I'm thinking how to jazz it up visually with the least amount of work. Of course the Schleich knights are very cool, but there aren't that many of them, and terrain is more of a problem. My medievals will provide plenty of spectators, but I am singularly lacking in pavilions, stands, boxes, whathaveyou, for the ladies and their gents. For that matter I am lacking in ladies and gents! Plenty of "revolting peasants", but none sitting. Hmm! This could get to be too much work and expense. Anybody got any ideas for how to do stands with spectators without using minis? I'm thinking of something printed like a backdrop…

I think I have seen your set up before, maybe in Round Rock, TX?

Crossed Lances is also a great game for Jousting.
I've recently completed a photo review of the rules together with a step by step after battle report on my hobby site.

Another simple Joust game can be found in MWAN #84 on page 190. It is called "Joust the Black knight". This issue can be purchased at Wargame Vault.

There was an old GW, before it became too evil, jousting game called Full Tilt, the game is the tactis you choose and a sort of RPS interaction with the opponents choice. one could jazz it up with favours, speed of the horse etc. They also produced card stock pavilions and stands and tilt etc. A bit of searching will get you them all online for free, don't have the links on this laptop.
