Glad to see the new set being released, e.g. Joust – Heroes of the Lists, and that it includes rules for using their Gladiator rules for Medieval Foot Combat too, so a proper and full tournament can be run.

So, what other options are out there?

Ones that immediately come to mind are:

1. Chainmail
2. Chivalry and Sorcery's Jousting Rules
3. Full Tilt (heard these mentioned, but am still looking for a copy if anyone has one to share – apparently they were available for free on the GW website, at one time)
4. Others?

Also interested in recommendations for them. I'd prefer a more detailed set, with some sort of provision for trying out various strategies.

It appears to me that in jousting, the guy moving more quickly on his horse has a better chance of unhorsing his opponent(s), but controlling the lance tip will be harder at speed. Then of course, there are various choices for where to strike an opponent as well.

Probably a number of other subtleties too, e.g. trying to angle your upper torso away from the strike, at the moment of impact, so it glances off. That should work, but you might be more likely to be unhorsed if a solid hit is landed, if you aren't sitting square in the saddle, etc.

If I recall correctly, Chaosium's Pendragon RPG had some jousting rules. Of course, I could be wrong as that was long, long ago.

Search. This has been asked before.

I did search the message archives, but the latest real info is from about 3 years ago, so figured it might be dated.

No foot combat, but the foot rules are out somewhere

Pendragon had jousting rules as well as how to run a tournament. The problem was that it was really set up to be done on paper, mo miniatures or counters necessary. Lou Zocchi's "Knights of the Round Table" had a jousting system, as did "Excalibur" from Wotan Games. There was an RPG based on a small "pocket game" called "Melee" from Steve Jackson that was expanded into a larger game which included jousting as a skill. I haven't messed with any of these for over 20years, maybe 40 for KOTRT.

Here's a late add to the list.

Also, The Society of Ancients has 'Fields of Chivarly' available for a modest £5.00 GBP GBP (scroll down the Games page in the Society's webstore )

It has coloured card fold ups to keep you going while you paint your figures …

A brand new jousting game that is straight forward and easy to play is Crossed Lances.

I did a review on my web site.
